cutting the chassis
 

alright, ive just finished moving the sevo to the axle and cutting new tread patterns on my stock tires. now its time to move the gearbox up higher onto the chassis in order to cut the chassis, giving it more ground clearance (and yes i know, raising the CGs). but the shock mounts are in the way, and i was wondering how other peoplemoved their gearbox up. did you move the shock mount??????????

I did not move the shock mounts at all. I just moved the tranny all the way up until it was touching the shock mounts. Then cut some of the plastic off of the bottom of the tranny. All in all I think I gained a little more than an inch of clearance.

ok, but then how did you connect the bottom of your tranny to the chassis if u cut the bottom brace off?

I have not done that yet, my chassis is at the machine shop getting a custom skid plate made that should secure the tranny.
If that does not work, then I am going to use the method someone else here used.... get a skid plate and put some JB-weld in a center, then oil the tranny and mount the skid plate. The JB-weld should mold around the tranny.

If you measured properly, you will just need a skid plate that "sandwiches" the tranny in place. Make sure you grind the botton of the tranny nice and flat so it has a lot of surface area to sit on the skid plate. It will not go anywhere if you measured right and you won't need to use anytype of adhesives.

alright, i think ill just try to sandwich it really hard, also would it work to use epoxy instead of JB weld (i only have epoxy), or would it not be strong enough?

How thick is the tranny case after u cut on it? I have been wondering how to secure the tranny if I buy and do these mods to this truck. What I have in mind is what about the knurled brass inserts that I and many others use in the t-maxx tranny to secure it to the chassis when u strip out the holes in the plastic

I was the one with jb puddle, epoxy might work if it was thick enoough. I let the jb weld set up a bit before I mated them. I've got a pic if you want to see.

I moved my shocks and cantilevers to the outside of the frame. Then chopped the lower frame off, fabbed a new one piece skid for improve clearance. I also raised the tranny a little but have more BOA clearance now.

Kona Joe - what body posts did you use and do you run the stock tranny? I was doin about the same deal with my TXT and I moved the tranny up to the hole for the shock mounts, but it still hangs down bout an 1-3/8 inches from where the frame would be chopped off flat.

I made them, used some 1/8th inch 90 degree aluminum cut on an angle. The angles match the lower 4 link bars to prevent any pre-loading of the rod end.
