Suggestions for my TXT buildup - Updated

I got a bunch of parts from madscrambler, TJ_shunk, and wrecker in the past 2 weeks. Basically, the idea is build either a 2.2 TXT comp, 14" basher, or a super comp. I have a prototype SW3 and J2-TT chassis to work with. So I'm leaning to a 2.2 comp or 14" basher.

Is there a trend? Suggestions needed:
prototype SW3 or J2-TT chassis
2.2, 3.2, or 40-series wheels

14"er.

Here's mine:

They can be setup nicely with the revo pushrods.

i love my 14er, its fun... i almost wanna tear it down and build a 2.2. with the axles, or a super txt... hell i dont know. but i know i like the 14er.

one good upgrade is a emaxx tranny. the 2 speed has a great low gear for low end grunt. make some mounts ( 90 degree bent aluminum... nothing fancy) and fit it with traxxas driveshafts and it works beautifully. i currently have a emaxx tranny and shifter servo mounted in my own txt-1 and it works great.

I think you should build a 2.2 with the prototype SW-3 because there is not many 2.2 TXT's.

Good ahead and post some pics. Right now, I'm leaning more towards the 2.2. I got the chassis yesterday and hope to start the building in the next few days. I just have to be nice to my banker so I can order some more parts...

You have any pics of your setup. Right now, I'm think I'm going to use the pede trans some have the spare parts. But a 2-speed emaxx trans would be cool...

pede tranny might be too fragile for crawling. ill take a couple pics of my setup later today for ya though

The Pede tranny is anything but fragile, it has been used in probably 90% of TLT crawlers built, and it has been used in 14"er TXT's for a while now.

The Pede is very tough. ;-)

TwistedCreations 11-01-2007 08:23 PM

The pede tranny is tougher than you think Julie "thumbsup"

Swell- If your going for a comp rig and you use a Maxx tranny, you should lock it into 1st gear. If you do not, you will have so much slop in the drivetrain(due to the shifting forks) you will rack up more reverse points than anything.

damn now im thinking about a 2.2 TXT... the 14er is fun but im the only 14er in vegas..

todd1803 11-01-2007 10:11 PM

Basically you need to decide what you plan to do with your TXT. If you're planning to compete, you'll probably end up with something totally different than if you're just planning to bash.

I built my TXT into a trail / basher rig. Wheelbase is 13", considered 14 like everybody else is doing, but that didn't fit the body at all. I won't call this a scaler, but I wanted the effect of a custom tubed out truck with rockwell axles, so I kept if short.

nice build!!! that's what i'm trying to figure out... 2.2 comp or 13-14" basher... i will be rebuilding my 2.2 into a tuber this week so i can use that j2-tt chassis for my build up.

i plan on running a 65t motor on my TXT. the question now i have, should i use a pede or R2 trans?

1beatjeep 11-02-2007 05:42 AM

run a pede tranny with a 45 turn motor you will have wheel speed when needed.

TwistedXT 11-02-2007 10:04 AM

set it up just like benders tlt using the sw3 chassis... run narrowed deep dish stampede rims to keep it narrow. Im currently runnin a 2.2 txt comp rig, it needs like ALOT of tweeking but its almost bomb proof!!!!

blue-beard 11-02-2007 11:25 AM

If you want to compete then a 2.2 is your best bet. It sounds like you may have a 2.2 comp rig already though. There are a few people that have be competitve with there 14r's in the super class. (Sparky J, Grizz)
One thing to keep in mind is the TXT not great gear ratio in the diffs. The bigger you make your rig the deeper the gearing in the tranny you will want/need. Or if you can get your hands on a set of 4-1 gears that would be even better. Sparky J has a great build thread on here that goes through alot of stuff about building a 14er txt.
What ever you build, make sure you enjoy it. 8)

I built a TXT 14'r last year and learned a few things along the way. First off, a R2 trans isnt nearly strong enough for a heavy rig like a txt, maybe a 2.2 version, but thats it. Next thing, the axle ratio is just too high. I have egressor 4:1 gears and am replacing the R2 with a VXL spec pede trans (all steel gears!) in my truck this winter. I ended up stretching the WB on mine to 15-1/4" and adding 4ws. I compete in the local super class with it and do extremely well against 17"+ WB clods. Setting your antisquat also makes a huge difference on how well your 14'r (or any shafty for that matter) will climb. Mine took a long time to dial in, and needs more work still, but it works pretty well.

dieselfuel 11-04-2007 04:02 PM

the more and more i think about it, im gonna tear down the 14er and build a 2.2 TXT... i like the idea of having a pretty much bombproof drivetrain. the 4:1s and beefed up pede sound about perfect ditto..
