| My new comp rig for 08....maybe...
Anybody who knows me knows I'm a diehard Clod guy, but I've always had a thing for the big shafty rigs. I've built a Maxx and a TXT before, but I've never been happy with the performance. I guess I've driven a Clod too long. I'm one of those crazy guys who thinks Clod stall is a great thing! Well, I'm giving it another try. I built the Area 51 Clod chassis that Joey Floyd (RXCrawler) won Super class at Nationals with so I know THAT chassis works. I figured I would build a chassis for a TXT with that basic design but with a couple of tweaks. First I wanted to try moving the lower links inboard on the skid plate. That seems to be a popular thing to do lately. I know that Austin (Gatekeeper) may not have been the first ever to do it, but he has really been behind the recent popularity of it with his GC-1 chassis and his awesome driving! Second, I wanted to be able to dig with it. That is another advantage the Clods have. Sure, I could have done a large version of a dig rear driveshaft, but that isn't what I wanted. I wanted to be able to do front AND rear digs like I can with my Clod, so two trannys seems to be the only option for me. I absolutely SUCK at build threads, once the wheels get turning and I start cutting there isn't any stopping, and when I'm done for the day I'm usually sick of it and the last thing I wanna do is take pictures. So anyway here are the pics of the rolling chassis. The first pic has the body on it.. Looks just like the Clod version, things don't get interesting until you pull the lid off Not too much different from the norm in this shot.... BAM! What?? Driveshafts?? 2 Trannies?? It's a little wider than I'd like, but it still fits fine under a 'cuda body Sittin' on it's side poser shot Flexes like butter, really really smooth. Not bad clearance for a SHAFTY!!!! Side shot without a body, I threw the Clod tire under it to show some idea of clearance. Now... where to fit all this crap...and batteries! Last edited by Heavy; 01-08-2008 at 08:48 PM. |

That thing is awesome. I love it, but didn't you just make it like a clod? Each axle is independant from one another.

Thats pretty sweet! Love those lower links. What did you do drill and tap the aluminum for studs to put the ball ends on?

Very nice. I love the revo shocks, I ran them with Jato springs on a rig and it was super smooth. The valving is really small as well so a low wt. oil works great

Wow! That's pretty neat! But no man, I've not seen that pic before and I've had no experience with the 1:1 crawling scene. My lower link design was influinced by the "Beefcake high clearance links" that used to be made by Centepede Engineering. A company that made Crawler parts a few years ago from Australia. I modified the design to fit my needs. Toyofast used to sell their parts here in the U.S. back in 2004. Here's a pic, circa 2004. |

| I dunno yet. This is the first shafty I've built with this suspension. I'd have it running already but I'm short a motor, one of the motors shown is for mock up. I bought one from someone here on the board on the 7th of December and never recieved it. So it's on hold for a few days until I get one. I'm not going to start wiring it up until I have all the parts in hand.
