Default How are these trucks?

I just love the looks of these little rigs, i was looking into getting one for just some scale trailing. How do these do on the trails? If anyone has one that is just laying around that they are willing to part ways with, in any condition, roller, artr, whatever, Let me know.

they are ok for trails and they are fun in the mud but dont expect much on the rocks i used to love mine untill i got an ax-10 then i havent used it scince realy maybe a run here or there and that was it but i just didnt like mine cuz it wasnt a crawler and didnt get to drive it with tires worth crawling with i say new tires and a tad softer springs and one would do great!

Other than dropping a 55t motor in them and better tires they are great. They can do really well on rocks just remember its not a comp rig, so keep to the easier stuff. I got a comp, a custom built axial based 1.9 and then one of these and I think I drive it more than anything just because of the challenge to drive it on more difficult terrain, plus they take a serious pounding.

they CAN be built and tuned to do quite a bit more than some people would believe... this one is a good example.

they do surprisingly well on the rocks. great for trails. only problems they have are too fast motor and stock tires are rocks.

Mine has a RC4WD 4:1 reduction on a 55t motor and my special brew BFGThrasher tires (mud thrasher treads on stock tire sidewalls keeping them same height as stock tires).

Check this video, looking at the course I would haver have thought you could get through it and it was very possible.
UTRCRC Tamiya CC-01 ONLY Ultimate Scale Adventure

Most of the guys in the video are either running 55t motors on 2s or 75t motors on 3s. The 75t on 3s works awesome!

Also, most of them were running Losi Basher tires. They rub a bit but fit under there fine.

Did some mods to lift the front suspension and the rear a hair. Flipped the front body mount to raise the body a bit, added some weight in the tires and that's about it.

I have to agree with the posts above. These are great trucks. If you want to stay close to stock here are a couple of examples.

Its got a simple body lift, some scale stuff, hpi wheels and mudslinger tires, skid plates, and a 55 turn lathe motor but the rest is stock. No outlandish mods.

Like mentioned before they are a blast in the mud.

why yes I do.
using it pushes the motor into the battery area. you have to cut the vertical out to allow the motor to run into battery area. Then you also have to cut the bottom to fit the motor (second pic).
Battery now sits on top of motor, forward of where its supposed to go. The two L brackets (usually used for holding the servo in place) are what I velcro my battery to.

also near the end is a top speed run shown, with my 55t and 4:1 reduction setup.

Pantablo, that is a GREAT video!

Ive done every mod known to man (almost) to my CC-01 and I still didnt know it would do that kind of rock crawling!

Question: Do you attribute your better performance over my rig to the 4:1? The lower turn motor? What makes your rig so capable?

I dont have a 4:1, and Ive got a 45t on 3c and FXR.

Yeah I do...

People get slammed for asking questions and not doing their research...

So which is it?

Ask the same old question? Or research old threads for answers?

I have to admit, mine was pretty fun the first few months i had it until i ran into ALOT of trouble..

I think i liked mine better then my honcho because it wasnt as capable. It made it more fun, my honcho just goes over everything in its way..

I hope you understand that the CC-01 is not intended as a crawler so if you bought it as one then that is your own fault that you ran into " a lot of trouble" with it. The SCX-10 can not be compaired to the CC-01 because they are intended for totaly different type of RC'ing. I own both and love both. Do I expect my CC-01 to perform like my SCX-10? no and that is why it has never had any trouble with it. Learn what your RC's are intended for and you would still have your CC-01.

While the CC-01 can be modded to perform better you have to keep in mind it was intended for flat ground.

These trucks are very cool for what they are but dont compare them to an scx10 etc...as well its like landcruisers vs rav4....

In saying that i own an scx10 2.2 and a cruiser cc01 with minor mods..and I enjoy the cc01 getting stuck sometimes etc..lol
