This has already been an expensive month. I bought an e-revo brushless edition and a pajero in a weeks time. This was my first Tamiya kit and it was quite a bit of fun, and I can see myself doing another in a not so near future. It's pretty much stock except for: 55t motor(still too fast), probably going with a gear reduction unit as well. cut that ridiculous black box off the front of the chassis. modified front end for more movement and steering. locked front and rear diffs making some BFDG's as shown by pantablo http://www.scale4x4rc.org/forums/sho...d.php?p=466098 . ^I don't think he made a thread on this site about it, I could be wrong though. My only concern is the stock shocks. I'd like to keep it cheap and use them, but how are you guys getting good movement out of them? They seem kind of stiff. Heres some pictures before I drove it and began trashing the paint job. I used the stock tires just for giggles. They suck. ![]() Does that seem about right for flex? Also thinking about hacking off that bumper... Last edited by pardonmyn00b; 08-07-2009 at 09:39 AM.

Really? I thought they were pretty soft, almost too soft. I think once you step up and away from the stock hard-as-a-rock tires the performance will improve. My 'Jero rolls over stuff and tends to nosedive due to the softness of the stock front shocks and Pro-Line tires. I have a 3mm front lift and have the stock front shocks preloaded enough to level it out with the rear suspension. I also run weight in my wheels and some weights added to that small empty area at the front of the chassis. Quote:
Flex looks about normal. Just replace the rear stock plastic weak links with some real links to help make the rear move smoother and you could even add a slightly longer rear shock to gain some more droop out of the rear. Here's how my front bumper looked last week... sadly this setup doesn't allow much front body mounting support and as of right now, it has broken off. ![]() ![]() Other than that, looks good... welcome to the CC-01 family | ||

Thanks toyofast for all the great advice. I'm just waiting on my dirt grabbers to get here so I can make the tires and ill see where that takes me with the suspension. I'm going to get some metal links for the rear and do the front end lift for sure. As of right now, too much torque twist back there. How is your body mounted in the front btw?

In those photos it still uses the stock way to mount the body but since I abuse my rigs... with no real structure to spread out the pulling force used to mount the body, everything below the grill has broken off. Tonight I have to drill holes for two small body posts that'll stick up through the hood. Plus I'd rather have my prerunner bumper and 3racing winch mounted to the chassis rather than the body.

that looks good. Nice paint. dig the colors. I still use the stock shocks on both mine. they seem fine. do the tires first then assess the shocks. I think I did post about making the hybrid tires here too. Its not a sticky though so got buried pretty quick. definitely go with the rc4wd 4:1 reduction. its awesome and gives you the effect of a drag brake going downhill.

seems like people are having great success with that 4:1 unit. I'll be ordering one this week once i figure out if i need anything else from rc4wd. I got bored last night and started tearing it apart to work on the suggested modifications. First up, rear metal links. I liked blackfoots idea of using a bicycle chain 1/2 link to mount the shock. Blackfoots CC01 Project with Some simple DIY Mods good use for the scrap bike chains i have. i used a kmc pintle chain, all halfs. to any riders out there, dont use this chain. it likes to snap and send you over the bars a lot, and/or crush your nuts on the stem | ||

Glad I could be of some use to someone. Looking foward to the updates and pictures. I have been working on my 2nd new C01 kit. This one will have a Bruder MAN cab on it, short WB, with Axial upper links for the lower links on my CC01, for now Im keeping the stock uppers. I used servo mounts for shock mouts on this setup, need to replace the stock Tamiya lower shock ends for swivel ball ends.

Finished up the rear suspension today and took it out for a spin. so far so good! I used 1/4" U channel for the mount to the axle. drilled some holes, popped in some bolts and the half link for the shocks. I used a ball end from an e-maxx steering link so i could get a good offset for the side of the chassis(to prevent rub). Keeping the stock uppers for now, they seem to be fine. Tires are up next

Just buy adding the new lowers and mounting them to the side of the molded in frame, is amazing how much more solid the susp feels, isnt it? She is looking great, nice fab work on the link mounts.

Yeah, those metal links do a great job plus make it look 10 times better. Over the last 2 days I was able to make 2 tires, I'm getting better each one i make so the last one will be sweet. The dirt on the tires hides all imperfections, lol. I took the rig out and drove it fast around a field jumping and do some sharp turns. The tires held up very well. This truck is a blast to drive. ![]() Excuse my little friend, he gets pretty stoked when he eats clif bars Weird picture angle makes the wheelbase look too short, but it isnt in real life.

Lookin good, these CC01's and the Tamiya Humvee's are my all time favorite trucks. I have built solid axle trucks and custom rigs and end up parting them out and keep sticking with my Humvee, its just as capable, 10x more scale then the SCX10 or any of the custom scalers Ive seen or run. Tamiys really made some great trucks that are a blast in almost stock form.

Very nice truck. Its amazing how the little details really help make it that much of a better truck. The skid idea is creative and very nice job on the tires.

I got some yeah racing 80mm shocks and got them installed. Even the softest springs were too stiff, so I did some creative problem solving and found some softer internal springs. Im not running any O-rings or oil because Id have to imagine these cheap things would leak anyway. New ride height isn't too ridiculous looking...or is it? ![]() ![]() | |

Looks great at that height. I have never had a set of Tamiya shocks leak on me. Run fluid in them, you will be surprised on how well the cheap looking things actually work.

I forgot to mention, another reason they probably wouldn't hold oil is that 2 of the 4 shocks were missing the rubber bladder. lol.

Great looking rig. I like the mods. There's lots of good info here on fine tuning these chassis. Looking forward to fine tuning mine. You've done a great job with yours.
