Default 62's Wide-eyed YJ

This is my CC-01 Jeep YJ project. I haven't been on this site for too long but have learned alot about building, modifying and customizing. You will see things you have seen before, nothing original here. I've adopted some great ideas. Please look at it as a compliment to the guys who actually came up with these ideas and mods.

CC-01 Jeep Wrangler kit
Traxxas waterproof esc
Traxxas waterproof servo
RC4WD Rock creepers
Axail bead locks
3R winch
Futaba radio
lighting(unknown which yet)

I started with hacking the front end for better approach clearance, repositioned the steering servo and front shocks.

I wanted to try my hand at cutting styrene with thread (1st time hacking a body), frightening!! I cut off the fenders or at least half of the fenders for tube fenders. It came out pretty good. I was amazed at how easy it is to cut w/thread. Still need to do the tubes around the fenders.
I also wanted round headlights instead of the square ones. I ordered a new toyota grill and cut out the round openings, sanded them down to make inserts and grafted them into the square headlight holes. I still have lots to do. So what do you think so far?

Thanks guys. I'll be doing more work on it this weekend. I'm going to try the styrene tube fenders and I can still see a seam line around the headlights. I appreciate the feed back. It turns the volume up on my motivation, although I'm usually motivated anyway, it's just nice to share this obsession with other's that share the obsession......

I consider the info 'open source'. I learned lots from people here and got the courage to try all these things from them. If I can pass that along I'm happy to do it.

If AMC had just done what you have done, I would have liked the YJ even more. One thing my club did to fullscale CJ-7's that were cancerous, is swap out the YJ tub for the CJ's and install either the CJ fiberglass front clip or bolt on CJ fenders, grill and hood. I have thought about doing that with the Tamiya body. All you would have to do is cut out the grill, make a CJ grill out of styrene and change the hood buldge to a narow CJ style and it would look like our 1:1 rigs.

Nice work BTW, can't wait to see the finished rig

ah, I was mistaken. They called it a CJ, did the round headlights but didnt actually ever redo the front grill or narrow the hood. still a good build though.

Default Update

Sorry for the delay in updating this build. Life gets busy. I added 1/8" styrene tubing to the front and rear fenders. I had to redo them 3 times because I couldn't get them to stick and stay. Sanding the styrene first was one issue, the epoxy was another. I ended up using JB weld. Very strong as you know and sandable.

Next I temp. installed the Traxxas wp esc and changed to a drag link setup for the steering. Then I installed the bumpers and winch. Let me know what you think about the bumpers. The front looks a little big but I like it anyway. Then came the overhead lights, roof rack and the Reign CB ant. So far I like how this is turning out. I still have lots to do. Thanks for looking and the feedback.
