Positronic's YJ Wrangler

The old CCO1 section is a bit quiet lately, I'll try liven it up.

Had this body for a few months now, since my fj40 is done I've started working on it.

Sat the body on my FJ40 chassis, looked cool but I wanted to a try a cco1, watched too many of pantablo's video's I guess. :ror:

I filled in time by filling in holes and sanding the icky seam lines.
It is my first time painting a hardbody. I also have cut off the front bumper, Ill make one out of steel for it.

All murdered out in semi gloss
http://img.skitch.com/20100326-fyrh6...meikfqpqwc.jpg

time to mask this sucker up, tamiya masking tape works pretty good.:ror:
http://img.skitch.com/20100326-8i71a...8b3arj94m7.jpg

At this point I had no idea what colour it was going to be, at first gunmetal gray, then metallic green then, I found some yellow in the shed.

My bearing kit showed up in the mail, wont have to use those pesky bushings.:flipoff:

bearing bearings?? show us the truck!

ok ok, so here it with the masking off, I got some pajero rims for it too.

Looks like a good start, Tamiya kits are alot of fun but this one will not be to hard to do if you have any building time under your belt. Looking forward to what you do with it.

Positronic 03-26-2010 11:25 PM

thanks fixed, yeah built my share of tamiya kits in the 80's. My 40 turned out pretty well

Just not sure how far to go with the jeep, wether to leave street everyday look or braze up a rack and lightbar like yours. will decide when I get that far I guess.

get spend all weekend on the body waiting for the kit. Been working on the details and touch ups, bit more to go.

40 looks great, YJ paint tuned out great too with all the details done. I say go all the way, I ran mine "street" for a little while and got bored with the look fairly quick...........and I needed to build something and didn't have cash for another rig.:ror:

yeah I'd say that's whats gonna happen ;-)

yey my kit finally arrived in the mail

first mod! locking the front diff using the gear method, basically jam a 4th spider gear in there
http://img.skitch.com/20100329-geuhd...k2h51casbs.jpg

4 hours later..

http://img.skitch.com/20100329-8tg4g...repcja5p14.jpg

it's a blast to drive, the suspension works so well, drives very realistically, it's no rock crawler by any means but handles the trails and hills with ease. I put a 55T motor in it straight up and the speed seems about the same as the fj40 (its 35T with 20tooth pinion)

the front is a bit of a mess since, I'll whip up a temp styrene bumper until I bend one up out of steel. Still have to put the stickers on and such, need to buy some little brush paints too.

The fj40 looks serious buisnes next to the jeep

6 hours later..
almost forgot the flex shot
temp bumper, some decals

Grumpster1980 03-30-2010 12:21 PM

Sweet Jeep! one question, why did you black out the tail lights?

Andyjk 03-30-2010 05:16 PM

Hey mate, nice work. Just wondering where you got the Victoria licence plates? They look awesome

thanks, the kit comes with clear tail lights and black ones, I just threw the black ones on till I pick up some paint, and wire up the lights (my kit was missing the light unit)

 Thanks for the kind words. Looking at your build, I think you would do just fine on your own. Your attention to detail shows.

thanks, your roofrack set up is the best one I've seen, so I might copy it if you dont mind. Brazing up some rock sliders at the moment almost done :ror:

Positronic 03-31-2010 01:55 AM

Sliders are done, turned out pretty good, had to take them off 3 times and bend them to get them to sit just right

Looks great! Good job on the light covers! "thumbsup" I like the rock rails:shock: nice work.

fixed13 04-02-2010 09:45 PM

Love the outdoor pic, looks real. "thumbsup" Nice job on wireing your lights, sucks you did not get the light kit, I like tamiya's light kit and axial lights work, plug and play, same plugs, just FYI.

Positronic 04-06-2010 04:06 AM

thanks guys, bit of a silly video of me abusing the fact I stil got a 27T motor in it.

I had a half blown venom 55T at first but it hardly runs, will pick up a new 55T shortly.

got some mud thrashers today though, and it was raining outside so I went for a drive in the jeep, made the world of difference, its crawls quite well now and these tyres are great in the dirt too, think I'll be buying rc4wd tyres from now on, because they just fit the rims nicely unlike the flatirons.
