Default An Italian 'jero

Good evening everyone, here I am with my first project on a CC-01.

First of all, the goods I collected for this rig:

  • three bodies (a brand new one for spare, the red one I'm going to repaint, and a sand one that is heavily damaged and will be used for some experiments);
  • 1,9" Mud Trasher tires;
  • Gloss Aluminium, Blue and Dark Blue spray paints, and some brush paints for the details;
  • 3R winch;
  • Traxxas waterproof servos;
  • TLT shocks;
  • GPM steering replacement kit;
  • Full ball bearing kit;
  • A Tamiya R32 wing to be adapted to the Pajero body;
  • Tamiya Tundra's snowboards;
  • Custom decals I designed in CorelDraw and had printed and cut by a local Print Service.

The chassis came in sligthly used, and already modded with rear 3-link (using an Axial Y) and front clearance improved.

I disassembled the whole chassis, cleaned it up a bit, installed my ball bearings and reassembled the transmission using only stainless-steel hex screws

Next I modified the R32 wing:

Cut away the stock mounts and with the help of a heat blower i bended it a bit to fit the Jero body:

Still needs some more work but I'll return to this later; first I have to complete the chassis.

For now, I have modded the front C's and links to gain some suspension travel and steering angle, and installed TLT shocks:

...and the GPM kit:

Also to limit bump steer, i added a spacer under the knuckle uniball, to have the steering link work (almost) with the same angle as the suspension links.

In the above pictures I was using the Tundra rims and stock CC-01 tires that came along with the chassis.

I already ordered some Losi 1,9" mini crawler wheels with blue beadlocks, and I have an Atomic Mods 100T heading to my home, I will run it at 3S LiPo.

Sorry for my bad English and see you soon for some updates

Good looking mix of parts you have there. Can't wait to see how this all comes together.

Welcome aboard.

Thanks for all your comments!

Here are some updates:

Front 5mm body lift

Mounted the Mud Trashers on the temporary rims...I think I'll have to trim the front bumper a lot...maybe strip it off and use some Proline bumpers

Found some titanium uniballs at the local hobby shop:

and used them for the lower links:

Had to cut the chassis frame to make room for the center link support:

Mandatory flex shots (still with no rear ammo installed and no electronics):

Then, I had some chewing gum box laying around:

Stripped off, and here is my fuel tank (to be painted, of course):

Moved to the body, closed the roof antenna hole and the two rear mounting holes, that I will drill 5mm lower to lift the body. Also drilled the holes for mounting the Tundra snowboard supports:

Went ahed sanding the body and glued the R32 wing to it; will be sanded and made flush with the help of some epoxy when the glue will dry:

Last, I modified the front wheelwells to make room for the bigger tires:

The 100T motor came in!

Installed:

I ordered some GPM lower shock supports, had them mounted on the rear axle and threw in some electronics for yesterday's first test of the chassis (the body is my basher one):

As you can see, I initally had to mount the shocks upside down and bolted to the upper hole of the GPM supports; otherwise, they would interfere with the lattest on flex. This gave the rear an unrealistic ride height, but I thought it would have been ok for a first run.

Today I scratched my head a lot on how to solve this issue, and I came out mounting some bigger and bent rod ends to the TLTs:

Waaaaaaay better!

Well, I tried it on that test and it isn't slow at all, @ 2S LiPo it will be as fast as a walking man, in the final version it will be run @ 3S so it would realistically gain some more wheelspeed

Lotta updates!!!

First, I swapped the two GPM supports to obtain more clearance among the rear tires and the shocks:

Then added some reinforcement to the upper mounts:

At that point I shot a short video of my Pajero having a trip in my garden. It shows the crawling speed of the 100T and also a couple full-throttle runs.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-z__uAAm4U

Back to the updates, new rims came in

They have a significantly higher offset, that will ensure the tires won't hit the shocks and also improve lateral stability of the chassis

Added some weight to the wheels by wrapping a 3mm lead sheet around them twice; it is kept in place by some adhesive tape

They look killer

Flex has improved thanks to wheel weights

Aluminium servo mount went in (great piece of machining!)

And rear links were covered with brass tube to match che color of the shocks

Nope, once tightened they press onto the tire but it's not enough to hold it in place in harder passages, I had to use some glue

Last Saturday my mates and I had another nice walk in the woods, and we brought our Jeros for some testing

Last night I had some spare time and I drilled the rear mounting holes, 5mm lower than the original ones:

Then started adapting the rear wing, that I had glued to the body, with the help of some putty:

Still have to sand it down properly, but I like the look

Thanks mate.

Now that I completed my master thesis (i'm now a Master Computer Engineer ) I will hopefully have some more spare time for working on my rig...before I can find a job

Here are some updates:

Closed the original hole at the battery tray, the LiPo's I will be using are small enough to fit inside the chassis and will install them from the top, using some velcro:

Then cut away the original bumpers to make room for the Western Bumpers by Proline:

Used some epoxy on the chewing gum box obtaining a nice fuel tank (to be painted aluminium):

Talk about tight fit (or luck? ):

Body will use the original rear posts:

That will be hidden by the new bumper:

Will use some velcro at the front, here a mockup of the final look:
