Cutting the BRICK ...any detailed info about this operation ??? any pics maybe ? |
It's really a judgment call- just cut off as far back as you think you want and see how it works. (obviously, stopping before you get to any mounts.) https://photos-3.dropbox.com/i/l/p9t...646000/7978841 I cut off pretty far back and then cut part of the original plastic box for a lower skid. (all with a dremel) Then used a small piece of aluminum to seal off the top. I've stopped about 1/2" in front of the gear box cover. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/20314621/CIMG0137_s.jpg |
Thanks...I just want to know if under this brick are anything, and if not, why didn't Tamiya moulded un other way ??? hmmm...interesting |

I have wondered the same thing. You would think that Tamiya would see that so many owners have removed the block and would design a better front end. The CC-01 has been out for years. |
You can dremel most of it off. SAVE WHAT YOU CUT OFF THOUGH. You can glue some of the scrap back on to close up the hole. Here is my front end. Whats left of the brick is down under the winch fairlead (under the bumper) http://i1215.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1298516152 |
i like that any better pics |
the brick is there for mounting the hard bodies like the wrangler |
Here are some pics of mine. I cut off the front brick, then cut a wedge out of it to fill in the bottom of what remained in the front, then used Delrin to fill in the rest of it. You can see the delrin in the white in the first pic, its painted black after that. Seems to work quite well, but I never really did anything with it before making the cuts. Here it is before I painted: http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j9...1/DSC07392.jpg Approach angle: http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j9...1/DSC07436.jpg Close-up of front: http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j9...1/DSC07435.jpg Here is the brick after I cut it off: http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j9...1/DSC07432.jpg The wedge I cut from the front of the brick to put back on the body: http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j9...1/DSC07434.jpg http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j9...1/DSC07433.jpg http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j9...1/DSC07431.jpg After all the cuts, I held the pieces on using MEK, and then filled in the back side with a LOT of 30 minute epoxy. If you do this, be very careful it doesn't run down to your gear cover. It seems to be holding up really well. http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j9...s/DSC07426.jpg |
thanks...nice details in your post... |
