Default Whoo! I broke something!

Lost a cross pin out of a universal on the prop shaft today. Any thoughts on a temporary fix? I was thinking about drilling it out a little and sticking a machine screw through it.

For a more permanent fix, would a stock replacement be best, or would Traxxas parts be better? I'd like to go with Punishers, but popping $40 seems a bit much.

i break small drill bits alot and keep the un cut part just for this reason. most (i dont know what sizes) but most small ones usually do it just fine. Or, you could always get a roofing nail, big size paper clip, or a large needle to cut down and use.

Why don't people ever mention using Axial shafts on these?

It sounds like you want axial shafts.....if you know that why start the thread? And I would just get another prop shaft and make sure the e-clips stay on.

E-clips? Didn't see any e-clips. Weird.

Actually...I am looking for a quick fix to get the truck running again and I was wondering about long term fixes as well. Just wondered why no one, that I've seen, has mentioned using Axial shafts rather than Traxxas ones. Are Axials the wrong size? Too weak? Cursed by a vengeful gypsy?

there arnt any E-clips he maybe thinking of cvds not universal joints in which the cvds have a metal coil like wire that goes around the part nearest the wheel. the axial shafts however will not work niether will traxxas drive-shafts. as the long term fix i have used the drill bit fix on a t-maxx i used to have never gave up! never had to get another cause the size of the drill bit was tight with the port. however i doubt youll punish your CC as i did the t-maxx so i say save 40$ and break a bit

Cool. I'll get that done. Once I break something else on the driveshaft, I'll replace the whole mess.

Nope. U-joint itself is fine. It was the pin that fell out of it that was the problem. I drove an old drill bit through it and cut it down to size. Should hold for a while. If that goes, I'll switch to M3 screws and nuts. Got loads of those hanging around. Also, found a metal parts bag on eBay for $15. I'm not buying it, but at least I know they're out there.

These CC-01's don't have a front drive shaft, so the OP could only be referring to the rear shaft.

the front does have drive shafts? just much shorter and much smaller diameter than a traxxas or axial shaft.

They do have eclips.....they are on the pin at the trans-output on it if he was using a stock prop-shaft. And the fronts aren't technically driveshafts.....they're axle shafts.

So I should watch out for the pins coming loose on the other universal as well. I thought the unis were just press fitted. The hunk of drill bit I jammed in there is sure press fitted.

No the universal at the axle has a head on one side and is flared at the other. You may want to cut that drill bit piece down a bit though unless you want it catching everything you try to drive over.

No worries!

I can post a pic of the Maxx shaft if anyone wants to see it. It's complete over kill for a CC-01, but at $8 for the 'upgrade' I couldn't pass it up.
