| CC-01 Volkswagen Race-Touareg, My First Kit!!
Hi guys!! I ordered my first kit to build ever tonight. I normally buy RTR stuff because I don't have a ton of spare time, but I found the kit was on clearance at Tamiya USA and I've been looking for a second scaler to go out with my Honcho with my wife at the wheel. I'm hoping it shows up early next week. In the meantime, I've already ordered some stuff for it as well. I ordered a 55t Axial crawler motor to step the speed down a bit and give it a bit better power for climbing. I also ordered a full set of bearings for it from Boca. I'm not very versed in bearings, so I hope that this is a decent brand. I'm not going to be getting the truck wet really, just out on some mountain bike trails...so the bearings are more for run time. I've also got a line on a pretty good deal for a more programmable ESC, servo, and a TX/RX for it. Hoping to be done with parts and everything other than paint for a total of less than $200. I know it's the "rally race" truck, but I'll probably be adding some more scale type accessories to it, like a roof rack and such, for now. I would REALLY like to get a Mog body for it eventually...but in due time, due time. My main reason for really wanting to get a kit, other than the value and the fact that I wanted a truck for my wife to drive, is the fact that this fall/winter I'm going to build a Super Clod or one of the new Tamiya Bullhead trucks...and I figured I should try to build SOMETHING before I take one of those on!!! I'll update this thread as I work on the truck. Sorry the post is so long, with no real details!!! |

Both are pretty easy builds (I don't even crack the directions on my CC's anymore) - neither should give you trouble.

I grabbed one of those clearance Touaregs too. Didn't want to miss out on that great deal. Tamiya kits are fun to build. Enjoy!

Have the feeling we'll be seeing a lot of these. I already have 4 cc's, but could not pass up that deal! |

Hey Gimpdiggity! The 55T was a great choice! I have a 55T in my mog and its great for scaling. Have you given any thought as to what servo you're going to use? Also, The stock tires are going to be terrible for anything other than cement. If you want a good, scale looking, tire I would recommend the HPI Geolanders for their Trophy Truck. They look really scale but are more compliant that the stock crap.

Well, it looks like I won't be getting the truck at all. Just got an e-mail from Tamiya letting me know that the product I ordered was actually out of stock. Called them up to see if they could substitute anything, and the guy on the phone (who didn't seem the most friendly in the world) told me no. It also looks like it will take about 30 days for the money to make it back into my account, which is fantastic. I'm a bit pissed, actually. I ordered bearings and the motor already, and had a deal worked out to get myself a pretty good deal on electronics for it. I can find a use for the motor, but the bearings?? I guess those are just $20 lost, unless I want to go with a Unimog kit or something. Right now, I'm just leaning towards getting a Ridgecrest and calling it a day. |

Give it time. Another one will pop up. Keep your eyes on eBay and try to focus on auctions rather than buy it now stuff.

I think that unless they make this right, I won't be looking into them as a brand that I purchase at all again. I'm sorry, but if your computer system allows someone to make a purchase, and takes their money, but the product isn't in stock?? You need to make it right by offering a substitute. Not an excuse that it was a computer error, and not your fault. That, in my opinion, is unacceptable. | |

Don't be so bummed, every once and a while one pops up for sale here at rcc... If not I'm sure those bearings can be sold or traded. That's the beauty of this hobby, you never will be stuck with something if it's in decent shape.

I'm glad they resolved the issue, I really wanted the Touareg but it was still too good of a deal. A lot of people are going to end up happier with this turn of events as I know the Unimog is way more popular.

Yup, got the e-mail about the Unimog as well. Mine should ship in a few days!!! Tamiya really dropped the ball on this one, then scooped up the fumble and returned it for a touchdown. Good stuff. |

Alright, I got the Unimog today and got started on the build tonight. Had a really good time working on it. It's my very first kit, so I was taking my time and doing it fairly leisurely...took me about two hours to get the chassis and the drive train done. I'll work on it some more tomorrow night while watching the hockey game, I think. |
