Picked up something for the rear chassis.............. And two of these that will fit (one at a time) inside it. Cannot decide whether to cut one side off and use it like a velcro on cover over the battery (sitting on a tray I machine between the rails, or try and braze a hinge on the piece I cut off and some brackets to bolt it to the rails. |

Got the tank in. New - Old stock, so it shows age I should have gone a tad smaller on the 2cell. The 1800 pack is exactly the same length. I spun a dozen different ways to cut the tank, braze hinges one, etc. After cutting it for a hinged lid, I decided to turn it upside down and use it as a cover over a delrin battery tray. So now the imbossed "Perfect" brand logo is upside down. Oh well. Overall, it actually has room for two 1800 packs on top of each other in a brick (2s2p). Tray (on riser blocks off the frame rails) Tanks fits over the end of the tray on the LH side. RH side is secured with an M3 T-bar for removal in the field. Overall shot (made a T-bar for the spare tire too) |

Gratuitous flex shot with stock lights. It is still a balance game of too soft or too hard of spring rate in the front. |

How very tempting! I'm starting to like the Axial 'clutch' setup more and more. Sorry if you've said so, but are you running the Robinson Racing steel gearbox gears?

I had other slippers in my junk box, but ended up with a 1:16 Revo spur and slipper assembly, running through a delrin block, with a pinion on the opposite end to run the existing CC01 gears. The smaller dia of the Revo gear made it sit down in the motor recess better and keep the shaft centered. | |

Thx! I think a better version would have a slipper from a 1:10 scale. But the centerline of shaft would need to shift upwards and offcenter of the original CC01 motor mount. (diameter of a 540 can is +/-36mm, diameter of a 16th Revo 39t32p spur is 33mm, diameter of a 80t32p is 65mm) On the plus side, a larger spur would let you flip the motor around and mount it forward, overtop of the stock trans, for better climbing. I was concerned with the original motor mount holding this whole assembly in place well enough to maintain the gear mesh with the stock CC01 spur. If I did it again, I would find a sutable 400 sized motor (like a smaller Holmes cobalt) so the weight was down and the mouting was easier. |

Well, after a couple runs on my small course, I found the leaf spring that is under torque twist on climbs, that I ground skinnier, is permanently deforming in front of the axle. Ordered up some Chino soft leafs and true shooter shackles from RPP. |

What is this 'chino' stuff I keep seeing? The 'chino mod' is mentioned quite a bit on the TF2 forum.

Checkout post 39 in this thread: scale tricks thread Pic is stock left, chino'd on the right. You chamfer the ends to allow them to roll more. |

Updates: Chino Leafs from RPP. These are a progressive, stacked leaf. I only used the outer one. I cut the inner most (shortest) one down a little and mounted it upside down, under the single long leaf. This acts as a curved surface for the soft single leaf to lay down over as it flexes, causing less kink in the leaf near the axle. Torque Rod (correct term??) Stainless rod with loops brazed on. Firmly mounts to the axle in three points. Bent to be approx centered on the axle up near the chassis. Front of rod runs through a slotted piece of Delrin. Counters axle wrap under load. Rod wants to rotate up, but cannot. Rod can slide forward/backwards and a little side to side as one wheel flexes. Leaf Mounts Fashioned up some Delrin leaf mounts that use the three existing axle screw boss'. Axle is sprung over now versus under. Shooter Shackles Tried to make my own, but these work sooo well Had a spare MIP that I pieced together. Last edited by sweli; 10-16-2012 at 08:50 PM. |

Looking good man, I've never seen one of those 'torque rod' setups but I can see what you're doing with it. And you gotta love those shooter shackles, so much droop.

Thx Derb! I saw that setup somewhere else on here or Scale4x4, but cannot remember where now. Did find different 1:1 setups explained a little here: Axle Wrap Prevention This is close to the 'Ladder' setup explained. Last edited by sweli; 10-17-2012 at 04:42 AM. |

I should have gone with a hanger+shackle+rod end at the front of my ladder bar, but between the floor of the CC and my added pan, space was limited.

I did get the stainless belly pan hammered to shape around the extended driveshaft. |

The shooters work pretty well And the ladder bar actually still lets it flex. This also shows the stainless tube rear bumper I fabbed. Used a short 5mm stainless cap bolt braze in place to fill the ends. Might need a second lower tube for looks. I pulled the front tire inner bead off and the foams out. Cut the front foams OD down about 1/4" to let the Rock Creepers flex some more. They have a fairly stiff sidewall due to the tread design. |
