Default First cc01 Jeep

Hey guys I'm building my first cc01 and ran into a problem. I've locked the front diff with the extra gear and when I screwed the diff together it was pretty tight (is that normal?). My problem is that when I have the gear cover on and spin the drive cups there is some binding/rubbing and I'm not sure where. Please help.

Also, is it normal for the gear between the front outputs to be very tight between the bearings? Thanks b

I had this issue briefly as well. It's because the gear you used to lock the diff hasn't had its back side filed a bit. The gear rests against a piece of plastic inside the diff housing and if you dont file a groove into the back of the gear, it will get pushed up and out and cause the binding you are speaking of. This pushing up and out will also cause the tightness on the outputs. Don't touch the plastic in the gear as it needs all that to keep the cover on. Take the diff apart, make a groove in the back of the locking gear and put it back together. It should be fine now and there should be no more binding or tightness. Chuck some pics up when it's done. Also here is a pic of my rear diff, but you can see the groove I made in the spider gear to lock it up like the front.

Thanks Derb! I ended up using the rear locker for the front and it worked well. I don't really feel like taking it apart again lol so ill just order a locker fr the rear. Pics should be soon!

Okay - ordered the G parts, it's spinning much more freely now! Here is a pic for fun - nothing special - I am loving the GPM parts parts. So far they go together very well, despite not having instructions lol. I'm stoked, I have my scx10 and love it but this little truck should be sweet!

Damn that looks nice in all silver! You should space out your front skid assembly by putting spacers between the plate and the chassis. 5-6mm definitely helps the clearance in these rigs.

That's good to know. Any special spacer? Can I just use the same screws too or do you suggest something longer to compensate? I have some delrin 1/4" sprinkler line that could act as a spacer...

I had a few really nice alloy spacers that came with the JunFac skid plate and diff skid plate kits that I ordered. Both skids just made the car hang up more, but the spacers were nice. Longer screws won't raise the height without some kind of spacer in there. Maybe check out your local hardware store? If you want that nice look, you can actually buy the spacers from JunFac themselves.

DDR thanks for the links. I actually have the junfac skid as well with the link kit I got but if you say it hangs up ill just sell it. Do you have pics of how your spacers are? Do I need to put a spacer in where the shocks mout to the chassis too?

As you can see, I didn't have to space my top shock mounts at all and I was still running the compressor rings on the shocks. I'm running 90mm RC4WD shocks now, but not because I had to.

Ya I'm planning on that. The build is on hold while waiting for the rear locker - parts G. What shocks are you guys running? After I run the stockers for a bit I'm gonna look into an upgrade.

I like the RC4WD ultimate scale shock setup for droop. You don't run any shock oil in them at all. But you're looking for 80mm on the front and 90mm on the rear. Pick your brand, just stay away from those nice looking GMade shocks as they are HUGE and don't fit the little old CC01.

Derb is exactly right. That is what I am using as well. Just recently put the stock shocks back on the front.

Hooray! I got my G parts today and locked the rear and got the rear axle built. Sadly the build was kinda on hold for that part. Now just waiting for my junfac shaft and ill have the truck about finished. Man I'm chomping at the bit to get this a roller. Found a set of 1.55 mud thrashers and 1.9 diet grabbers to try and am excited.

LOL. Autocorrect at its best.

Good to hear your build is back on track too. Use the tamiya driveshaft if you're that keen, it's not that hard to swap around.

Blah, idk why I am having so many issues with this truck. I got the Junfac 4 link installed and the axle/pinion are pointing downward. I've Googled images of the kit and from what I can see i have it all installed correctly. Any thoughts? I'll try to get a pic up soon.

Make sure you are using the rear-most holes when mounting the long links. This is from another guy's build where someone pointed out he was using the short wheel base link points, but his output angle looked fine. Maybe you need to move the long links to the front most holes to cure the rotation of the diff.

how do you like the prowlers? I just ordered a pair, and I would like to know if they are better than flatirons? Thank you so much!
