Alright, I finished sculpting the body. I don't know why I didn't think of modding it prior to painting it. Perhaps I just got carried away. Any how, I cut the front bumper on each side at about a 45 degree angle and then caped them off with some .80 styrene so that it has a finished look. then I had to widen the wheel wells a little bit. I did my best to make them blend so that once the finishing sanding is done and the paint reapplied you shouldn't be able to tell I hacked it up just a touch. Hear you are, I can now drive it without those big tires rubbing |

I know what you mean about the rubbing! I had a set of 1.9 Pro-Line TSL's on my first CC01 and they rubbed a lot! But it was a lot of fun!!

So my next quick mod is going to be adding a full size spare to the back of the truck. I found spare tire mount on flee bay. I'm going to get that and then I found a single proline wheel to mount he spare on. Now I just have to find a single flat iron so I don't have to buy a pack of them. I did take her out in my yard for a little bit and crawled on some junk lumber in my yard, she handles very well in my opinion. I'm thinking I need to upgrade the electronics and swap in my BRXL, and BEC for the servo so I can up the voltage. The NIMH packs last a long time, they just lack the umph I need. Next mod, --- mid that motor plate to take a smaller pinion, I'm thinking two more mounting holes, 12t and 14t pinions should do the trick... perhaps even a 10t pinion and I'll be golden. but we shall see. Here's some action shots from today's little drive... I can't take her on too much difficult terrain yet because the 55T motor got wicked hot in 45min of driving on gravel, grass and planks. That looks awesome mate! I love the tyre squish in the second last pic. People say Flat Irons are too big for scale, but I reckon they are perfect. Look just like 35" tyres I think.

If you take a 3mm drill bit and put a hole just over half way between the 16 and 20 hole, you can drop in a 12t pinion... makes a huge difference in power with little speed loss. you have to use two counter sunk screws for it to work. The gear cover is a little tight going back on, but it it fits!!!!! This photo has a cap screw but thats before i realized that the cap prevents the cover from going back on. |

So I found this spare tire holder on e-bay. It's really nice and well built out of aluminum. It's a little heavier than I would like, but it works really well. Check it out. |

That's a nice bit of kit. Junfac make one for the Pajero too but it's much the same.

I've been thinking about the portal hub mod. Does anyone, know what the gmade r1 rear axle width and gear ratio is? If its not too wide then you could use that in the rear and the cr01 portal knuckles in the front. sent using taptalk 2 - This is not the Droid you are looking for. |

I've got info to drop on your this morning. I have both a CC01 and an R1 and have done a fair bit of research into the portal ideas. First things first, no idea on the gear ratio, but I can measure the hex to hex distance for you tonight. It is much wider than the stock axle, but will let you test yourself once I get the dimensions. Also to keep in mind is that the portal hubs for the front run a gear reduction unless you do the 1:1 mod as shown in this post, High Clearance CC-01 Power to the portal!, and the reverse the wheel direction sicne there are only 2 gears in there, not 3. I think it's going to be quite hard to match all the ratios up, so my plan was to do the front hubs with that 1:1 mod and then flip the rear axle 180 degrees since the front portals will reverse the drive wheel direction. This way you can just reverse the motor channel on your transmitter to make it go forwards instead of backwards. Flipping the rear axle is easy and you side step any bad underdrive/overdrive combos, and you could make the Junfac 4-link work with just a little filing. Possibly the GPM 4-link kit, but I don't run that one so unsure on it. If you run some bigger shocks and nice, big 1.9 tyres you'll have plenty of clearance under the rear end. Let me know if you want any more info and I'll see what I can dig up. Last edited by derb; 02-07-2013 at 03:26 PM. |
