Default Outrunners

My brother, who is amazing at crashing RC planes, stopped by today and gave me a couple of BL outrunner motors. They're both about 950kv and have the correct mounting holes. Pretty cool so far. The only hitch is the 5mm output shaft. I was thinking about drilling out a 20t pinion to fit, but realized the pinion for my GRU is way smaller, so that's a no go. Any thoughts on getting the output shaft down to size using a small vise, a Dremel and some files?

Thatīs what i did, filed down the shaft enough to accomodate the pinion, pretty easy

How did you keep the metal filings out of the magnets? Seems like it will get messy

Put a plastic bag around the motor, poke just the shaft through and that will minimise the metal shavings on the magnets.

;) had this issue pushing a pro4 5.5t into mine i used this TowerHobbies.com | Axial Pinion Gear 32P 12T Steel 5mm Motor Shaft -- make sure you find one with the correct pitch though.

Is the internal gearing on the rc4wd GRU 32p? I thought it was much finer than that. If it is, this is a great solution. Thanks.

correct this will not fit the normal gru from rc4wd or the little one in the picture, if I was stuck in this spot I would reduce the shaft to 4mm and drill the pinion out to 4mm to keep some meat on both. or find someone to trade your motor with

My other ideas, if I don't turn it down myself, would find a friend with some proper gear for turning the shaft or drilling out a 20t pinion and eliminating the GRU. I tried drilling out a pinion myself, but it was a little (really) wobbly.
