Ok just checking i packed it with grease too, i think the chassis amplifies the noise also, i triple checked how everything meshed and it's all smooth so I guess I'm good to go. Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk 2 |

Yes, the HPI is quite a bit noisy. The RC4WD unit is very quiet in comparison.

I have installed about 3 HPI GRU, in my various CC01 chassis over the years. Mainly because the cost to import the RC4WD GRU to South Africa is so high. With shipping it costs $75. So I only have the HPI GRUs as a reference, but out of my 3, and my mates 2, we had 2 that where very noisey. And no matter how much grease you pack into them, they don't change. You have to run them for a while (5-6 hours) until they run in. Then change the grease, and they get better. I mated a 20 turn Axial motor to the HPI GRU with great torque and wheel speed. |
