Default my first cc01!

I just bought it yesterday for $80 as a artr, it had already been 4 linked, metal high torque servo, 550 21t motor, and a set of like new mud slingers.

this how it looked when I first got it...not to pretty!

I really didn't like the look of it so I cut the slingers, trimmed the body a little, took the lights out, and gave it fresh coat of black paint for now!

I think it looks way better now....and what is a good shock setup to use on this, right now it has mismatched springs on it and they are stiff almost zero flex.
so for now this is all I have but I do plan to keep working on it! Thanks for looking

What was going on with the surface finish when you got it? It appears to have been a mix of stucco and packing tape.

what would be a decent motor to run? right now I have a 20 turn in it and it is a little to fast I think and the motor gets HOT! it started smoking today so I have to be careful how I run it.

Cheap 55T motors are your friend. I'm using a Lowbucks racing (copy of a generic can or a Tekin) I got for $10. RC4WD has sealed cans for $10. Worth looking at, if only to gaige how fast or slow you want to make it.

my main concern is how hot the motor will get would a 27t or 35t motor be ok? I don't want it super slow about a jogging speed is what im looking for. i pulled the 20t out and put in a 550 size 21t to hold me over. i just hope it doesn't get super hot.

55 will do jogging speed. Many install 4:1 gear reduction, as they feel 55 is too fast.

A 55t is good for a jogging pace. 16t pinion.

well this little CC-01 has changed hands again, its mine now. I'm in the process of working the slop out of the steering. My first cc as well. One question for you more experienced guys, it's got a metal spur gear, steel I think, and a 16t pinion and the gears are too tight. What pitch are these gears? i've seen conflicting results of .6, .8 and mod 1

If it's stock pitch gearing, they are .6 mod. Sometimes, they are erroneously referred to as "48p metric". Robinson Racing uses that designation.

The best quality .6 pinions I've found are Kawada and Robinson. Haven't tried Tamiya's own hardened pinions.

JUST NOTICED...you said metal spur...that's probably a GPM piece, which would make it .8 mod.

yeah that looks like the parts, in black. The gears sound jammed together and it drags hard. I think one of the motor mount holes is gonna stretch a touch. Just finished up a bearing mod for the steering. It's rock solid. 1x4 Aluminum rod, 2 bearings 10x5x4, 2 traxxis drive shaft screws. Lathe the rod to 5mm on both ends long enough to fit through the bearings and both ends of the linkage. Drill the tub to 10mm. Drill the rod and the ends to fit the set screws. I post some pictures up in a little while.

Aighty, after months of snow, weeks of mud, and much patient waiting the CC is going for his first outing today. Did a little suspension work, new shocks, longer springs and dremmeling on the a-arms for some more travel and steering. Dropped a 60t venom on a 12t pinion got some good low end, pushed with a hobbyking xcar esc. Running some rc4wd 1.55's. I'll let yall know how it goes.

well all in all not a bad run, kinda short, the wind was pounding like mad. got some good flex but the front springs seem a touch soft. I did notice some slight gear slippage in reverse seems any bind on the front axle will cause gears to slip.
