You need all the parts from 53522 except the swing shaft as it is too long. 53501 has the right lenght

3racing universal axles (non-cvd) look good & work, but the small pins in them will creep out over time & need attention.
a dab of JBweld retains them nicely.

Would that be the same as just ordering the tamiya one for the cc01?

Possible, but I don't know for sure, as the ones from Tamiya are fairly new

I just placed an order for the new Tamiya ones. 54608 . Should be here by the end of the month. When they arrive and are in, I will report back and let everyone know how they fit and work.

Hopefully good....

So I received my cvd's today. They look nice And seem to fit well. They come with a container of what appears to be graphite grease also.

I won't have a chance to try them till the weekend so i will report back then.

Also i went ahead and used blue locktight on the grub screws just to avoid any backing issues.

So i found an extra hour this morning and decided to go try out the new cvd's. I went to a local park thats got great terrain and put my little truck through the paces.

The truck and cvd's performed flawlessly. Zero binding ...... To me they also seemed to operate much smoother.

So short term conclusion. ...Buy them!!! You'll be happy you did.

Here's a pic just because. ...

I purposely ordered the top ones, but got the bottom ones. Not sold as or come in GPM packet. Were sold as 45mm? I didn't want GPM as I've had a lot of problems with their parts not fitting properly.

Had already opened them before I realised, so tried to fit em anyway. Nope, they bind on the inner gearbox joint on full droop. Maybe it's cause I modified the suspension for more droop. So too long, need more mods to work, not happy.

I think I worked our what the thin washers are for, but if I'm right, not a good idean on ball bearings, as they contact both the outer and inner parts of the race, so will cause wear and friction.

So maybe I should've got the Tamiya ones

Just measured the lengths.
The std ones are 44.5mm from the flat where it meets the bearing, to the centre of the pin at the other end, with everything straight.
The new ones are 45.5mm, so that extra 1mm is enough to cause binding on modified suspension.

According to this excellent thread, what you need if you've modified you suspension from more droop, are the 43mm ones for a TA02 -

Not so sure now. It depends on where the measured from.

Depending on the length of the new Tamiya ones for the CC01?

My front suspension is modified for more droop and have no problems with the Tamiya cvd for the cc01. They are smooth and strong. I just ran mine with 4.5 inch tire and no problems. Just drop the 20 + shipping and get the tamiya ones. You'll be happy you did.

Ooops! I was on RC Mart and ordered the ones from Yeah Racing.

Also some Traxxas rod ends as recommended in this link - CC01 tech thread. - RC Rock Crawlers & Scalers @ URC Forums
as would you believe the GPM tie rods won't fit on GPM knuckles, useless company.

Ok, so I read all that and I'm still not sure what geniune Tamiya CVD upgrades are available for my stock TA02 "humvee" but the stock dogbones just don't last.

Any suggestions as to what part number fits the TA02 Humvee?

Well, if its the normal TA02 and not the TA02W, 53172 fit one end.

Discontinued, so quite pricey on ebay.

GPM made a running design change, those above are what I've gotten the last 2 times. Sold under the name E-Racing Pro too.

The shaft is larger in diameter than previous versions to my eye. Works ok my my stock geometry CC, but it's right on the drive cup - maybe a mm to spare.....can see how that would be an issue with more droop. If you've got the o-rings in the diff cups, make sure they are removed. Will bind up if they are still in there, and not needed with a CVD. On a side note, I have no idea what those thin washers are for, I've never used them. I've got a set of Tamiya's on the way finally as well to compare.

Why don't the tie rods work with the GPM Knuckles?

The brass balljoints that screws into the GPM steering kit on the inside OK, won't screw into the knuckles. Different thread.

It'd be nice to hear how the Tamiya CVDs compare to your GPM ones.

Well, got the Yeah Racing shafts and they fit perfectly. A nice tight fit, without any silly washers.
Can also run at more of an angle than the GPM ones.

Oh, they don't come with any grease, but greasing any joint that isn't sealed is asking for trouble. Dirt will get in and your grease becomes grinding paste.

Finally got to put a GPM knuckle on using the Traxxas rod ends.

It went from no sideways play at the hub/bearing/wheel with the std Tamiya knuckles, to about 2mm of play at each wheel.

No more sub-standard GPM rubbish for me

I know that this is an old thread, but the thing that I'm writing now would have been useful for me so maybe it'll be useful to someone else.

About the GPM CVD:
Yes, they rub on the standard C-hubs because as others mentioned before, the pivot point is not maching the knuckles pivot point... BUT...

GPM solved this problem reworking their C-hub the way like this:

As you can see, the opening on the hub is way larger now, so the CVD won't hit it while turning.

Conclusion:
If you buy the GPM CVDs, (which are really nice and beefy...) you have to buy their upgraded C-hubs too. Always ask the seller first. I was lucky with this order.

With standard setup, buy the Tamiya or Yeah Racing CVDs.

Excuse me gentleman, I was really wrong...
Today arrived my Tamiya CVDs.
Forget GPM CVDs... or use dogbones...or run them 2wd...but not GPM!
