Rally style paint job and front grill done. Next up is decals and finishing up the bumper. Had to black out the rear windows since the tamiya smoke looked terrible compared to the model master I've used in the past.

Some (tiny) inspiration for the color scheme. Will be decked out for dakar when done.

Thanks!

Got the decals done. Mish mash of the kit decals, Dakar 2011 rally, and some Red Bull F1 car. It's all been outside coated with tamiya gloss clear and flat clear on the black 'plastic' trim.

Don't mind the messy desk...
Next up, stop procrastinating and finish the front bumper, detailing and lighting, then figure out my spare tire mount. Still undecided if I want to have a roof rack or interior. Fender wells might be in the future because the gaps bother me.

Haha yeah, just had to keep with the vision and push past the ugly caterpillar stage. Though I do like how the gaudy logos balance out the gaudy paint lol. Anyways, I suppose this is a little different than the typical build around here aside from at least one other rally FJC I saw somewhere, so I could see the confusion. Though if I do anything in the team associated 90's cow spot theme or the like I've probably gone off my rocker. ;)

For anyone wondering the paint design was done using liquid mask and a sea sponge as a brush.

Painted the GPM springs red so they match the Toytec 1:1's

Skid / top plate mounts to the shock towers. Should stiffen up the front end.

Had to pop rivet ugly side out. Didn't make the tab wide enough to fit the pop rivet tool in.

Drilled some holes in the 3racing winch plate and glued on 3mm nuts.

Winch time!

Bumper is on, lights wired up. All that's left to do is tidy up the inside wiring and attach the spare tire and I'll be ready for crawling this Saturday.

Thanks guys! It took longer to finish than I thought it would, but I can't wait to get it out on trail.

Well the GPM steering failed at the through post after a few runs so it's torn apart and waiting on some mail order 5mm steel rod. Hardware store did have a 5mm metric bit though. Just going to drill out the bellcranks and use set screws. Also need to come up with a pair of simple rocker sliders.

sorry to hear you are having problems.. im probabaly heading down the same road as you though.. but I have a question... will those wheel wideners work on 1.9's. I see that you have 2.2's

this may help

I'm running 1.9s. The wheel wideners and cvds are working fine.
Here's the fix, drilled out for 5mm stainless steel rod and 3mm set screws. Dremeled flats in the rod's ends for the set screws.

Steering is much more solid. Just need to tweak the steering link geometry and maybe use a torquier servo.
