I just picked up a brand new Jeep Wranger CC01 kit that is about half way built. This platform is completely new to me.

As I understand it the gearing is very high so you either have to run a gear reduction unit or like a 70 or 80t brushed motor to even attempt to crawl with them. What about sensored brushless? Getting cheaper and more reliable by the day. I've switched over to this in most of my RCs. I figure a 2000kv or less sensored motor should have plenty of torque to crawl no matter the gearing, and be more efficient while we're at it.

FWIW… in my Wrangler G6 I'm running a Tekin ROC 412 1800kv with a Tekin RSX ESC on 3S. It geared using Robinson Racing slipper assembly geared at 64P, 88T/14.

I can tell you it is absolutely smooooth across the entire throttle band, never get hot and it tops out at about a medium speed jog. It also runs very quiet, I was concerned during the build that it might be noisy because I'm using metal gears throughout the entire drive train. Turns out it was a needless concern.

It has huge torque and still has good wheel speed without timing. If I want or need more wheel speed I can always add timing to whatever RPM band I want wheel speed to pick up.

I'm completely happy with this set up.

I have owned some potent systems I'm just wondering how a mild 21.5T sensored brushless system would work in a cco1. Can get a Hobbywing combo for under $100.

I am using an 80t RC4WD brushed motor and a Hobbywing 1060 ESC. With a 3S lipo, the speed is just about as fast as I would want, a little faster than a grick walk. I have lots of other RC cars that are faster, but not a one can climb a rock as well.

The RC4WD motor was under $10 and the ESC about $22. For $32 bucks, I have a nice simple system. My 3000 MAh 3S lipo was an open box special for $19.99. So for about $50 I have a 3S lipo, ESC and motor. The open box was from Dirt Cheap RC. The battery was in a balanced storage charge and has been working perfectly.

I am a little cheap I guess, but maybe I am leaving extra money for other upgrades.

I don't run in comps, so I want a nice little trail/crawler unit, and the configuration works well for me.

I'm running the RC4WD 80t motors as well, it's the best setup so far without having to do a GRU. I'm running mine with a Axial AE-5 ESC and on 2s Lipo.

I've got a Tamiya Mini Acto motor and 3:1 reduction. Stunned at how good this combo was on the trail this weekend. Far and away, best set-up I've run.

Motors are pretty rare though, just scored 2 but haven't seen any in a while.

I saw your thread about that, what kind of speed are you getting with that combo?

Ideally, I think I'd like to maybe get Holmes Hobbies to hand wind me a 75t torquemaster expert series, but a rc4wd motor for around $12 is hard to pass up. Integy had some 70t and 75t motors, just cant find them any more really.

Sounds just about perfect, I may try out this combo on my Wrangler build. (if I can find one of those motors)
