the crappy steering from the factory.

I am building one of these now. The GPM steering kit is really not that good as many of you know I'm sure. Spend a few more bucks and get the hot racing one. I have CVD's in the front, trimmed the stops replaced all the ball ends with traxxas ones. Steering is a good bit tighter. Nowhere as near as loose as it was. Still like to get more steering. Seems like you go so far CVD's bind. Hope this helps somebody. No need to waste your money on the GPM kit. I'm looking forward to getting this done. Maybe if start or build thread. Have a good one guys

MY GPM kit went together really well with nice tight tolerances. However, after 10 or so moderate trail miles the top arm developed a lot of play. I JB Welded the top arm onto the shaft, but I suspect it will be a temporary fix. I think it will move the week point to the bottom of the shaft and it will develop play there. Only about 5 miles in after the "fix" at this point. Time will tell.
