Just some highlights, other people have nicer builds than this... I'm using a 3 Racing diff locker for an M-05 diff. Fits like a glove, and I don't have unbalanced rotational objects from using jammed gears in my truck--not that it matters. Forgot to take a pic before screwing on the diff cover. No, I'm not taking it back out, but you can certainly Google it to see what it really looks like. Best setup to have a gear reduction without hacking away half the gearbox cover: RC4WD 4:1 reduction with the very rare Tamiya M-Special motor. Just fits with maybe an RCH of flex from the battery box. |

| Re: Project Mall Crawler--Another FJ Cruiser You'll need one of these, an outdrive with flats instead of splines if you go the M-05 diff locker route. I've been saving one of the GPM steering kits since this is actually one that is machined perfect. Well sort of. With the newer Tamiya CC-01 kits, they actually tightened up the tolerance on the thru-hole on the chassis where the steering arm goes through. What that means is these nice Delrin bearing carriers are now an RCH too big to fit the current crop of CC-01 chassis. Instead of being fancy and chucking it up on a mini-lathe, I just used the steering arm and chucked it up on my drill and used a mini-file to slowly mill it down so it just fits. More tight clearances just under the front gearbox. Hand filed it now so I don't worry about it later, especially with my OCD tendencies. Even more tight clearances. It all works--for now. |

looking good, I need to find one of those shorty motors for my new CC01 build I have on the shelf. these chassis' work extremely well with a GRU, much more torque.

Great progress! I've been searching for one of those motors but they are pricey.

My love/hate for Tamiya is that they make one of the best polycarbonate bodies in the business, but I really have no patience or interest in detailing an r/c car body. In particular, I find that details that would otherwise be a three-dimensional part, wiper blades as an example, expressed as decals, to be quite annoying to apply. That said, here is my minimally detailed shell: |

I really like the looks of the front skid on that. Tires actually look small on there, not something I've seen on a CC01 before. Looks pretty good with the black, and with all that chrome I think it's perfect.
