Default My late dad's CC01 re-build

Hello from MNL!

Here's a 23 year old kit of my dad that I am re-building. It was left in a storage at my parents house since my dad passsed away in 2003. Last year, I picked it up when I decided to get back to RCing and re-build it.

Here it was when I got it from the storage

First was upgrade the suspension with new 100mm shocks

Rear:

Front: I created a new shock tower and made holes on the chassis to accommodate the 100mm shocks...

Then next was replaced all plastic bushings with rubber sealed bearings

Ordered (arrived yesterday) a PowerHD digital waterproof 20kg servo ($22) and some extra dogbones (4 pcs for $3)

I have also installed a new Radiolink RX. Ordered a brushed 60A brushed ESC and 27T & 55T motors yesterday. Should be here by next week (April 24-29).

Looks great. Good idea for fitting the longer shocks. Your dad would be proud. Glad to see it rebuilt rather than left and forgotten. Hope you enjoy using it.

Thanks! I've always wanted to set up a crawler/rally type of off-roader and I remembered that this kit was still at my parents' house (along with others, FF01, M-01, nitro boats, etc) and decided to get it and rebuild it instead of buying a new (or used) kit.

New arrivals and installed them...

- 60A Waterproof brushed ESC from GoolRC bundled with 27t motor and another 55t motor

- LED light set

Did a few thing during my spare time...

- Changed the ESC's plug to deans

- soldered the wires on the new motors

- installed the new 55t motor and ESC.

Preparation for painting...

Sanded down removed the "orange peel" effect from the previous paint.

Filled the antenna hole with putty. Covered the hole underneath first then applied the putty.

After sanding...

created holes for the tail lights...

Need to improve and clean the edges of the holes with a file.

My daughter requested a Teal color. So I mixed the color today and sprayed 5 coats as base color for the body using automotive polyurethane paint. Will cure the paint and start masking the flairs for secondary color (silver with a few drops/mix of yellow). Clear top coat next and wet sanding to remove minimal orange peel texture then 3 step buffing. Will detail the window trims, grill, light frames, signal lights, door handles, key slots and others too. Final touch will be the installation of the lights, front and back.

So did the masking of the flairs and painted them to the secondary tone.

*Masked the inner windows

Masked everything else that should not be painted.

Mixed the paint, catalyst and thinner. Color is silver with drops of yellow.

Painting...

After curing the flairs overnight, I masked the signal and tail lights for silver

Then sprayed...

Removed the masking once dried

Hand painted the clear orange and clear red lights

Will spray the clear to coat tomorrow if the weather is good. Then wet sand, buff and finish the details of the window trims, grill, emblem, and install the lights.
