CC01 Rally
 

Building up a Pajero Rally. Front and rear diffs unlocked. What’s a good motor for it I want some speed. Stock can is what I’m planning on using for now with a Hobbywing 1080.

If it's just for rally, I'd stay with the stock electronics, motor as ESC ... no real need of a 1080.

I guess I could use the ESC that came with the kit. I'll have to check it out. Have you had experience with the esc that came with the kit?

Except from its cut-off too low for LiPo (3.0v), it's a basic ESC that's good enough for rally and on-road, at least worth the try before changing for anything better.

I've used it on my CC01 for the first drive with the silver can so not very long as too fast, but it will end in my FAV once modified to get a cut-off suited to LiPo (it's "just" a SMD resistor to add). Now my CC01 has a WP1060 and a 55T, still more speed than needed for crawling or trailing but way better than with the silver can.

I've tried to run 3000kv brushless and it was barrel roll city. It was the low ride kit, and I lowered the ride height 5mm too. The steering was too touchy to drive smoothly....I could have messed with expo and what not, but I moved on with the project.

The stock Tamiya ESC's are nice, very smooth. They do need an external alarm though as tuxstang mentioned.

Better to have waterproof ESC and servo. Saved you from frying your electronics in case they get wet.

I hooked up the stock esc. Works perfect for what I want to do with this car! I'll just use a nimh battery for this ride until I upgrade the esc. Servo and paint will be here this week and it should be complete before the weekend!

I think you will be happy with the Stock Silver Can with the 1080, but if you are running in Rally, you may want to get a aluminum motor mount. The motor can start warping/melting plastic if it gets hot. They are cheap.

What other upgrades have you done so far?

My plan was to keep this box stock but I'm having second thoughts lol. I have a Landcruiser that has a lot of upgrades. I'm thinking I'll at least put the Hot Racing steering set in it.

The stock esc works great for what I want it for. No need for a 1080 for this project since it’s rally. Definitely need cvds so I can trim the c hubs for more steering. Not sure what to do about wheels and tires. Might leave stock.

How does it run? Is the cc01 good for rally? Looks like a rally Dakar style car. I'd like to get one as well, tbh.

I have a Unimog, but I wonder if the chassis is more fun as a rally car.

With the stock motor it’s fast enough. It’s a lot of fun with the diffs unlocked. The only things I’m going to do to it right now is install the hot racing steering as stock is very loose (I have it in my other cc01 and it changes everything regarding steering. So much tighter)and cvds so I can trim the hubs for more steering. I got the kit super cheap off eBay last year and I’m glad I did. I still see them on there. The stock esc works great for this application and it came with the kit. Still love my Land cruiser but this is a fun change as cc01s go.

hello, if the stock electronic are too slow for you i would go with a 2 pole cheap motor and run it on 2s, i used the loepard basic brushless combo with great results.
