Tamiya CC01 for competing in things I picked up this CC01 recently and took it on as a little project to build sort of a small comp worthy IFS rig. Let’s see how it pans out. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5274f90219.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...961dac6dca.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...0630c7d483.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...068c8b9e90.jpg There were a few things broken on it but oh well. I’m doing a complete overhaul. I won’t be using this Jeep body so that will go aside for another project. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c0a83d880c.jpg Time to tear down the CC01 and begin the improvements. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...96182d6f4a.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things It needs better steering. So this piece needs to go. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...a86f5cdfae.jpg Filed it down nice and cleanly. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f3e562f1df.jpg I made my own front upper control arms from threaded rod and Traxxas ball ends. So much smother and less slop. More articulations as well. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...1309a76c22.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...48d0c3e4bc.jpg Front brick wall removed. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...01d1573d52.jpg That’s it for now. Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things Nice! You found yourself a unicorn. Look forward to seeing what else you modify. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things Yeah..awesome ...found myself one too lately. Eager to see what comes next. I would say steering rack ;) |
Tamiya CC01 for competing in things Thanks, I forgot how fun it was working on these little beasts. Some goodies going into this. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5107d7b349.jpg I splurged for the more expensive Square RC steering. I’ve done GPM, Yeah and Square and though the price isn’t worth it honestly, it is the best quality and most sturdy. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...fc4e1bd2d3.jpg I brushed up on my Japanese https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...a8612a0e2b.jpg Some of the stock CC01 parts don’t need to be changed out such as the plastic Cs and the plastic lower control arms BUT the plastic knuckles are big, bulky and a weak point. Aluminum is the way to go. Ball bearings installed too. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...9d3449039a.jpg When the option is Tamiya, always go Tamiya. Good quality steel CVDs. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...023b93325a.jpg Grease “not eatable” https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...7acc1e4390.jpg RC4WD 4:1 GRU and Tamiya stubby Acto motor is a great great combo for torque and crawl control yet still keeps a slight wheel speed. The stubby motor fits in the stock spot with no cutting. They are super rare motors and very hard to find. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...95b870d7d4.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things Square rc ....sweet ! But a hefty price tag :O anyhow Tamiya is the way to go considered cvds ...nice build so far |
Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things That motor with a GRU is absolutely perfect for the CC chassis. I was lucky enough to find three. If I ever drive them long enough to wear them out, I'd love to send them to JRH to see if they can be rebuilt...stronger of course. Always love a CC01 build... :) |
Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things Your tamiya motor is so greatI also want one, but it has stopped production. Is there any substitute? Nokia 7 plus Tapatalk |
Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things Looks like a good project! Might have to try making a few things with the traxxas rod ends for mine. Nice idea. I have a hard time justifying spending money on this chassis, so I prefer to make when ever possible. |

Tamiya CC01 for competing in things Old school 3Racing mini LST shocks modified with Traxxas ball ends. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...11410de505.jpg The springs may not be stiff enough depending on what body I go with. But for now stock springs. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...61cd5c18df.jpg Rear 4 link. Adjustable. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d6fa344359.jpg Coming together. Custom bullet proof drive shaft as well. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...241b2f09f4.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...fa9dfa6872.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yes the shocks have full travel. They are about 70mm and a nice adjustable and smooth oil filled damper. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Tamiya CC01 for competing in things Electronics all dialed in and tidied up https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...85be87298c.jpg I didn’t want to use the jeep bod that came with this as I wanted something true to IFS. It was either the Amigo or FJ Cruiser. Since I only have like 7 FJ Cruisers, I figured one more wouldn’t hurt. Now I’ve had this body laying around forever. I also have the larger Nikko FJC body too but I chose this one for the odd proportions. It is a little narrower and has a pretty good approach angle as the front bumper curves inward. The wheelbase is a little shorter too. The color scheme is odd but I started to detail the body lines and think of some ideas. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...7b4b674f46.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things Nice... Haven't seen a set of those Losi tires in a long time. Rock Bashers? Is that right? I remember them being banned back in the day for some reason. I sold off 2 of mine, and now I miss them....just ordered the Hilux version to mess around with. I think it's a little more true to the IFS than the others. It's too bad the CC02 isn't what we all were hoping it was... |
Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things I really like how this is turning out and that body looks really nice, paint scheme and all. Nice work! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things Quote:
Oh nice. I like the Hilux version. Have fun with it. CC02 looks a little ehhhh I can’t explain. I may pick one up just to see. Yes Losi Bashers were banned as they were kinda cheater tires back then. But now there’s so many better tires overall. I just happen to have these so they went on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things Quote:
Soooo I wasn’t feeling the paint being half red and half silver and I grabbed a can of dark matte grey to paint the whole truck but then I had an idea. Stay tuned. Been working on this one a good part of the day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things I was about to break this body down and start painting. I picked a dark matte grey and then I had an idea. Scrap the paint and try to make this red and silver pop. I think it looks pretty good. Now to mount the body and fab up a flat belly skid plate and some rocker guards. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...8f741e865e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5128194c8b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c50fe7f158.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things I think you chose wisely! Looks flipping amazing in that scheme! Nice work! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things Really cool idea for making that paint work! "thumbsup" I picked up one of these last year from OSRC and haven't touched anything suspension wise, he had it really dialed in, it's a really fun trail truck, probably why he misses it. I just need to get off my but and get the new Amigo body painted and mounted. |
Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things Thanks. The suspension is buttery smooth. This is gonna be fun. It flexes better than my real Toyota. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5745e613d8.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...daf4f735d3.jpg Ride height should be about here. I can’t wait to mount the body and run this thing. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b39e0ac3d7.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Tamiya CC01 for competing in things Ok. Shake down run. This thing is really agile. Fun little rig. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c947da8dff.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...569068ec4f.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e51dddf1b4.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...9ad689334a.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...8cbc8b6aee.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things That looks so clean! I need to find myself one of these bodies now. Great job! |
Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things Quote:
Holmes Hobbies did just release a stubby Magnum which might be a good alternative to the ACTO motor though its not cheap by any means. https://holmeshobbies.com/catalogsea...sult/?q=stubby |
Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things Dang that is so cool! ... and like everyone else, I'm liking that paint scheme. |
Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things Quote:
It's not short enough though. It's 46mm long, where as an Acto is more like 36mm long. Amazing motor regardless. The right pick for a CC01 now would probably be one of his Snubnose Revolver motors. Those are extremely short, high torque and fit behind any GRU. With the upcoming quiet ESCs, that outrunner noise wouldn't be a problem either. It's what I'm planning on running with a 3s LiPo stick pack in an upcoming build anyway. 1800kv with a Micro Sidewinder 2, 3s and a 3:1 GRU from Boom Racing. |
Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things Changed out the wheels for now as I’m using the other ones for a new project. Hooked up the winch and added a old skool fairlead. This thing has a really great approach angle for a CC01. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...7462539c2e.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...368d56399e.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...85e00c73cc.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...124c9ce5e1.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things This part of the body annoys me so I gotta do some body work. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...0d9bc2091e.jpg Not perfect but better than it was. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...7cb751428d.jpg I just ordered some proper 1.55 wheels and tires for this as the 1.9s look way off on this smaller truck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things I think 1.55's will look spot on. Nice build man! |
Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things Quote:
Thanks AK. The black 1.9 beadlock wheels I had on prior didn’t look too bad because the ring sort of made the diameter looks smaller. But these 1.9s look goofy. I’m excited for the 1.55 look. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things Quote:
If you ever wanted to try the Big Wheel look, I know RC4WD makes a Trail Buster that is a 1.9, but only about 4" tall and pretty skinny. |
Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things Quote:
I’ll check it out. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Tamiya CC01 for competing in things While waiting for my new wheels and tires to arrive I decided to add some lights. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...0a49029cf4.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5445e56a41.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f033e21030.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...89aa15f076.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
