Default Goin' CC: A Touareg Joins the Clan

Well,

It would seem my girlfriend of all people has decided she wants to get into R/C, and while I'm doing up a custom 2.2 Clod for her, she also wanted something else.

A few trips to the LHS and she's fairly certain that what she really wants is a Tamiya Touareg. So, we end up down in L.A., and wow...........R/C stuff is WAY FREAKIN' cheaper then here in Calgary (think Canada if ya don't know where that is........). So being the great guy I am, I pick her up one (of course, not being influenced at all by my own interest in trying out a CC/Trials rig....he he he).

Anyways, it's bone-***-stock at the moment with the exception of a psuedo-hi-torque Traxxas Servo, but I do think it looks pretty sweet.

But enough chit chat, here's the goods:

I gotta say, I'm pretty impressed with the scale like chassis/suspension design. It looks wicked and seems to get pretty respectable flex as it is outta the box. It hasn't been outside yet, but I look forward to playing with it a bit before handing it over to the girly.............

I have the rear axle locked, and am toying with dropping in a 55t motor I have kicking around........but first, stock playing.

Only thing I don't like about the kit: The tranny seems to have a bizarely high amount of friction/resistance in it even though I tossed in a full set of BB's. Any one else find this?

Anyways, I'm out. Post yer thoughts!

Thanx Vitamin_J.................

I agree, I totally thought the TWARG body looked like ass. But after painting it up and ditching the crap-ass "Red Bull" decal pattern, I kinda dig it.

It's kinda nice now in an "Ugly Duckling" kinda way....................

Just a thought but did you see the the little warning sheet at the bottom of the box on mounting the motor. It had illustrations of how to mount the motor different from the direction guide. That could be the prob!

Thanx again on all the comments guys.

Sparky J: Ya, I noticed the "bonus" sheet of motor mounting instructions. I'm 99.99% sure everything is put together proper..........just doesn't seem quite as smooth to turn the wheels as a Clod tranny.

Anyone else notice a fair bit of rolling resistance with their CC tranny?

Oh, and fullmodtxt: The "deathmatch" game isn't mine. I played it once, but thought it sucked. Now the "Whiplash" game in that stack.......that's a cheesy good time!

Cool Twarg! I love mine. I put in full bearings and the drivetrain was pretty smooth. I run a 55t lathe motor- it's the only way to go! The stock silver can was pretty decent too actually, but the lathe has more torque for better crawling.

I like you paint- reminds me of..well.. mine! I found that trimming the rocker panels and front 'airdam' a bit made the body look a bit better in my opinion. Better approach angle too.

have fun,
ryan

rbgerrish: I gotta be honest with you man, your TWARG was the inspiration for my pumkin paintjob. I was gonna credit it in my first post, but sadly couldn't remember who's rig it was.

Props to you!

Well, took the TWARG out to some construction sites yesterday/today and had some fun driving it and watching my girlfriend try to drive it ;)

This lil' thing is far more capable then I thought it would be, and is a freakin' RIOT to drive!!!

Tranny loosened up a bit too, which is great. I think I'll trim up the front fenders a bit "a-la-rbgerrish", and drop in a 55t motor latter this week.

This thing is a damn fine investment..................

Is the Toureg the only XC chassis kit on the market right now? I'm not so keen on the Volkswagen body.

Ya, it is.

You could always get one, sell the VW body and slap on some other 1/10 scale shell, though.

That's what I did. Only got $11 for the body though, so it appears most people don't care much for that body. I'm working on a Parm '57 Chevy pickup body for mine. It's a perfect fit and looks great. I'm doing some other mods to give it an ol' skool 4X4 look.
