You know guys, I just spent the last 4 hours tinkering in the shop. I studied the cvd's for quite a while as well. Even did a lil tweaking to mine just to see what would happen. First thing I did was to cut a bit of a chamfer on the inside lip of the cup. It changed the angle just a bit. But what I did notice is the cross pin was now the limiting factor in the angle. While holding it full angle and spinning the cvd i could feel the pin, and it would reduce angle a bit then spin free against the cup again. What this is tell me is that the cup is sized to limit the pin from being the limiting factor. If it is off just a couple thousands (which I doubt it would vary more than +-.001) and someone has the steer servo to get every degree out of it you can get. Yes the cvd is gonna explode. I have been running mine for quite a while now. When I set my end points on steering, I went as far as I could and then backed it off a bit. The knuckle on the rig will turn more than the cvd will. So back off the end points a bit and see what happens guys. Just my .02 And yes I am working on Ti axles................ |

Keep in mind i'm no engineer but i have slept at a Holiday Inn Express! Last edited by Speedracer19; 05-31-2009 at 07:48 PM. |

On my rig, I had the epa set to stop as the arm was just about to touch the inner knuckle. Stopping it short of there will only help a little, unless you put a small screw in the knuckle to mechanically stop it. On my Axial, I saw the knuckles forced past epa (9100T on 6v even moved) by the crack my tires were wedged in. On my good CVD, the CVD will turn a bit tighter than the knuckle will, turning to the inside. To the outside, the knuckle can definitely go farther. Maybe the housing could flex a little, and the tie rod could stretch, especially with the plastic angled rod ends, but mine was nowhere near a bind. I think a chamfer, and less of a neck down would be a bit stouter, and you could still use the cup to limit the angle. |

So I started the thread and my # is 573. I'm really anxious to hear Richs feedback, as I think there could have been a little more heads up on a lot of these problems, I know this has been a on going issue. I'd really like to run this rig at WCC but am really questioning the integrity of the rig at this point. I KNOW it can and will some day be the bulletproof rig that I want but Im just wondering when? |
