Default HELP !!!!! Tekin RS and 18.5 Problems

Is anybody experience brushless problems with their losi? I have been running a Tekin RS esc and 18.5 system in the axial for months now and absolutely love it. In my axial I have been running a thunder 2200 extreme v2 2 cell and 12T pinion and it is absolutely amazing.

As soon as I throw it in the losi and put a 15T pinion on it I get all sorts of issues. Thermal Shutdown (even though the esc does not get really hot the motor is frying hot)

I have been getting cogging issues like crazy as if it is starving for power to move those worm gears. The ESC will make squealing noises from time to time now.

I have lost all of the smoothness that I once had in the Axial

Take the axles apart and add marine grease, just load the worms up with it. Some guys are saying they opened up their axle housings to find limited grease. One guy, that had limited to no grease said his motor was to hot to touch. He load his axles with marine grease and wa-la, runs great. Try that out man, it should stop the problem.

Agreed, take everything apart and grease, then make sure your timing is set at 0 both on the motor and in the esc.

I've been trying a 17.5t Tekin RS system and its working alright now but it was getting stupid hot before I did this.

rs settings
sensored mode
o degree timing on motor
0 timing boost
3 cell lipo
rev at 80
everything else on speedo turned off

just ran 17 mins and finshed 2 decent courses

Make sure that if you're using our system to have your motor timing at 0 along with any boost timing off. Make sure to use equal length motor wires whenever possible.

If there is cogging make sure your sensors are showing on the led display using the sensor checker feature on the RS.

BL motors don't make the massive torque that brushed motors due at 0 rpms so the setup is going to be a bit different. We're working with a few guys on the team running this car. We'll post what we find to help all.

I have the same ESC and Motor combo. I have 16T pinion in it just running around the yard to break-in the drive train. I am using the Losi 2s Lipo pack and so far the rear axle housing gets hotter than the front axle, motor and esc.

What would be the best pinion for the setup? I have a Hotwire and done the timing at 0, How do I change the tming in th motor to 0?

Thanks in advance

in a Brushless motor - all the timing is adjusted thru the software- if you check the box in the tekin setup to '0*' that's it. .

Whats the ratio of the trans? If all the reduction is done at the diffs, wouldn't a higher tooth pinion be better for a closer to 1:1 ratio at the trans?

There is a timing ring on the motor too. Not all motors but many have adjustable timing. If yours does have it then loosen the three screws on the endbell and rotate the ring to the zero mark. Maybe the Novak 18.5 doesn't, IDK.

Yes, found out motor timing ring default at 2 on my tekin 17.5. Timing at 0 on esc using hotwire. I will rotate the ring to 0 and observe any change in temp/performance

I had some temperature issues as well. i'm running 3s and a 17.5 with a 14t pinion now, but with the 15t it was very very hot. If you're running less voltage and a higher ratio, it makes sense to me that the thing is gonna tend to over heat. I'd try lower gearing(13t?) and checking for excessive sims. Other things can cause heat issues like too tight a gear mesh. That's probably not the case, but it may be a contributing factor.

I'm using a Tekin RS esc, tekin 21.5 brushless sensored (timing on motor & esc set to 0), 14t pinion, did all the other stuff - IE, removed the extra shim in both axles, greased everything including all the CV barrels - after running it fairly hard for 20 min the motor was warm, but not hot, esc was showing light #2 (warm, not hot) - working like a dream - I'm using Losi 3c 1350 lipo, CC bec (only hooked up to JR9100 servo)
