Default Hardware question

Losi has done it again and I am confused.

They have a mix of standard and metric hardware on this rig. They've done it with the 1/8 scale racing stuff as well. Why not just follow an industry standard that has already been set and stay with Metric. AE realized the proper way to go. Everything they have except for the 1/1oth offroad racing vehicles aremetric now. Even their touring cars!!!

It would cut down on the costs of what the average user has to carry, both tools and hardware. It takes away some confusion if you don't have your manual right infront of you. To me it just doesn't make sense as to why the have a mix, let alone any standard hardware on their kit's at all.

I found only two metric screws (the motor mount screws 3mm) and possibly the pinion grub screw but that isn't Losi's.

..I am sure it has nothing to do with the fact that Losi sells tools also.

Most of the bearings, according to the manual, are metric. There were a few assorted screws, not sure where, that are metric.

How many other crawlers out there are standard? I don't know of any. Why do the people at Losi have to be different from the industry standard when it comes to their hardware? That's my only question. I know of quite a few people locally that will NOT buy Losi because of them not following suit with something as simple as this. They can be as different as they want in the design of their stuff, I like that. That's not the point of this thread though.

I apologize, I found 8 more screws that you can use a 2mm wrench on.

Now the good news is that 2mm = 5/64" exactly. So if you bought the Losi standard hex wrench set you are covered.

However, there are only the motor screws that are really metric.

yeah i said the same thing after tearing mine apart.

3mm wont even fit through the ball ends, if we change axles over to an after market frame you have to force 3mm into the axles and hope it doesnt crack the mounts.

I followed the directions like you guys did and it was a mistake on Losi's part. I talked to Rich and he said they forgot to take the nut out of the picture when they did the manual. Just use the screw that it says to use and put some threadlock on before you screw it into the servo horn. That is what the manual was suppose to say. Hope this helps.

LOL - I like 4-40 hardware, so

and alright Rich or whoever picked it

I do hate the tiny allen head button head screws through out this rig, but I'm just replacing those, 4-40 hardware is plentyful and cheap.
