Default Possibly need a bec?

I'm running a novak havoc 3s speed control with a novak 17.5 turn brushless motor. battery is a 20c 1350 3s thunder power. Steering servo is a digital servo from a slash and dig servo is a losi mini steering servo. When I try and run the 3s after 3 to 10 sec. or under any kind of load the truck stops and all the lights come on the speed control at once. If I turn the truck off and back on again it will work for another few sec. Just for kicks and grins I tried a 2s 4200 lipo I had lying around and was able to drive the truck for 10 minutes around the house with no problems. Does it sound like I need a ccbec if I want to use the 3s? thanks for any advice.

Can you still turn the wheels when it "freaks out" My mini did the same thing with a JR9100T servo. Put the CC BEC on works like a million bucks!

Weak, maybe. Most ESC's I know of,the higher the voltage you put into them, the weaker the BEC inside the ESC becomes. The factory BEC in a Mamba Max for example. Ain't to shabby on a 6 cell stick pack of Sub C's. Throw a 3 cell lipo at it,or 10 Sub C's....it's weaker than cat pee.

I'd bet a Castle BEC will help a ton!

I had 10 back and forth phone calls with Novak today about this same issue. They said the regulator for the internal BEC CANNOT handle the 3s+high torque servo load.

You need to run an external BEC and problem solved

If you'll notice,99.9% of the crawlers on this site are running a Castle BEC,regardless of what ESC they have...for reasons stated above.

Just wondering has anyone ever upped the voltage past 6volts on a Hitec servo and if so how did it do? ;)

I've changed the one i have to 6.3V's because if you check the volts coming out with it set @ 6.0V the output is around 5.8V's. The only thing i have seen is the servo gets a little warmer with the volts turned up a bit but the servo seems to be stronger.

We are featuring a 6V/3A BEC in all of the Havoc 3S controllers shipping in the new Havoc 3S/Ballistic 8.5 systems, which we are starting to ship this week.

We are also replacing the original 6V/1.5A BECs in all Havoc 2S and Havoc 3S speed controls as a running manufacturing change.

This will not solve the issue discussed here. Here is the info on our 3 amp HV Universal BEC:

3A High-Voltage Universal BEC

We will be releasing info on our new GOAT 3S crawler esc soon. This will have a special profile specifically for this Losi Comp Crawler.

We will also be offering a 13.5 Crawler version SS Pro motor. This motor should be ready soon and can be used with the Goat 2S esc. We are not recommending the Goat 3S esc with the 13.5 motor in this vehicle---too much heat. The Goat 3S should be paired with our 18.5 Crawler motor.

We will be adding some additional info to our website with advice for this crawler from Losi.

just buy the Castle BEC. It gives alot more amps to the servo 10 amps. The amps is what makes all the difference.
