| Velineon VXL-3s with a Sensored motor? Can you help me?
Hi I am running a Velineon VXL-3s with the Velineon 3500 Brushless Motor in my losi comp crawler. I started with a 17 tooth pinion and a 7.4v 5000mAh lipo. The motor and esc was running a bit hot and the rear worm drive was getting really hot. Like I could not hold my fingers on the drive shaft yoke ya to hot. also the crawling was not to bad but if I would stop on a incline it would cog very bad unless I hammer the throttle them let off once rolling. So not the best for crawling but it dose work. I have know took the worm gears apart and cleaned them and packed them with white lithium grease. The front gears looked in good shape and the rear gears had a lot of metal shavings and some wear in the spool. It also looks like the wear is not centered, So I took one shim and moved it the side to correct it. And I also put a 11 tooth pinion on it. The cogging on a hill start is still there but a bit better and the worm gears are running just warm now and the motor & esc are also running warm now. Well with the cogging problem. Today I was going to buy a tekin 17.5 redline sensored motor but the hobby shop was out of stock. and with taking to him he was telling me that he is not sure about using a tekin or a novak goat with my velineon esc. He said that he herd of some people using cross brands with motor / esc and they would cog or burn up. So have any of you tried a sensored motor on the velineon ,? or can any one please try it it you have a sensored motor and a vxl and please give some feed back? Thank for your time, Mike I can post pics is any one wants |

you need not only a sensored motor, but also a sensored speed control, and make sure you use the sensor cable between the two.

u can use a sensored motor with ur vxl no problem other than no instant reverse. as for ur rear spool having metal shaving and the wear is off centered indicates an incorrectly cut spool gear so u should contactn losi for a new spool and worm pinion

Agree Running an un-sensored brushless esc motor combo is asking for trouble. I would also run marine grease in the axles. It has an extreme heat tolerance and one tube will last you forever.

17.5 with the 14mm rotor. As for a ESC, the Tekin RS or Pro for both of the motors. For worm/gears I would get the new HD spool kit. The new gear ratio will keep the motor running cool and still have great speed/torque. Hope that helps. Jake, (Del Monte) is currently running a 17.5 with the new spool kit...He seems to like it much more than his 21.5 motor setup he was running.

For the record guys, the VXL is a sensored and sensorless controller.

Which motor did you get, and how is it working with the VXL-3s. I am new to crawling and bought a used LNC with the Velineon set up. It works OK, but I want to get a sensored motor, and wasn't sure if I need t replace the ESC as well.
