| CDW chassis rail build
I should have started this build a long time ago. I've had most of the parts since the first of this year. It's going to be for my son, he's a little to young for it which is why I guess its taken my so long to start the build. Enough of the chit chat here's the goods. Cut chassis with rail chassis installed, I drilled to addition hole in the middle chassis braces for two more screws per side for extra support. I may take them out if it makes the chassis to stiff? CDW dig mount, theres a mighty mini in the pic i'm going to swap it out for a hitec82. Its a lot smaller and I should save some weight. I've got all the al parts installed in the trans and I'll be using a HH torque master pro 17t, starting with a 19t pinion then tune from there. Dlux ti lower links and al upper links, they are a made for a 60/40 setup. I just installed Autocad 123D so when I learn how to use it hopefully I can make a cab for this chassis? Dlux knuckle weights, Dlux adjustable caster blocks. HD gears front, stock in the rear. VP servo guard, I will start him out on my old hitec 7955. Al knuckles, ti steering linkage. Hopefully I can use what I have for a BTA steering setup? But with my luck I will probly have to make my own. I've got the losi upper rear link adjuster installed. CDW slw wheel spacers, and rear weight disc. Mamba micro pro esc, cc bec. CDW battery tray and rear link esc tray. It will be set up for comp specs even though it wont be used for that because my son is a little to young. I'm going to use 3.5 big bores, mini t springs, and I'm hoping I can get my hands on some cap mods by time I get my shocks? Thats it for now more to come. |

Your son is really lucky, I hope he knows it. That's a good start, this make me want to buy those rail. How will you fit the hitec 82? Dlux style or cdw mount? I'll be watching this thread, I'm curious to see the topper that you'll do. |

Thanks, I will be using the cdw mount, I've got it on hand so its an easy fit. It might be a while on the topper, I've got to learn the software first. | |

| I love how smooth a brushed motor is and I wanted something with some wheel speed so I went with the 17t. Its for my son so it should do fine for him, plus I've got the timing set at 12*. I also get to use a much smaller esc which will save me some weight. If it doesn't perform like I want it to, back to brushless. |

Lookin good. I'll be posting my build hopefully in a few weeks once my parts start rolling in. My tires/foams, hubs, springs, retainer cups ship tomorrow, just gotta wait for those rims to be ready so i have something to put them on I'll save the rest of my parts for my own build thread, don't wanna hijack |

I have to agree with what Robbob said. The rail setup is the best my losi has ever been. Leave the cross brace screws in it. Ive found it way more consistent with the screws in.

Well I got started on my links and quickly found out the measurements I sent Erik were way off . So I had to go with plan B. I made a wheel base jig to make things simple. I set the wheel base at 12 3/8 to give me a little wiggle room. I used my old lnc shocks to support the chassis for mock-up. Heres my cave man method of drilling and tapping the links. I did get the rear lowers finished tonight. Titanium is acually pretty easy to drill and tap. I thought it was going to give me a hard time but it went really smooth. I'm hoping I can get them all finished this week and get some wheel on it to see how it sits. |

Heres a little update, I've been pretty sick this week but I did manage to get out in the garage last night. I want my rear upper links to be somewhat parallel to the ground. I used some traxxas rodend balls to space the rear losi adjustable link mount to help me with this. They are still at bit of an angle in the pic but once I get my shocks mounted up I can better get my ride hieght set( which will be lower than in the pic). I ordered my shock yesterday and they can't get here soon enough. I hope the ones I'm going to use will work(top secret at the moment), if not back to the old 3.5 BB. Heres a preview shot, again once the new shocks are mounted the ride hieght will be lower. I didn't do my front uppers because i'm going to wait until I get the steering done. The steering is going to be next , I've got a few ideas for a bta setup so we will see what works? |
