Question LNC axel greasing

I am in the process of putting back together my LNC after greasing the worm drive. I just put the 2 halves together and I;m putting the axel shafts in. My question is I can't turn the axel's but I can turn the worm gear drive by hand. Are the axel supposed to turn the worm drive by hand ?? They seem to be going in all the way. Hope I made myself clear.
In other words I can't turn the worm drive by turning the axel's by hand.
Thanks

No you should not be able to turn the axles by hand. If you look at how the gears mesh together it should become obvious why it wouldn't work, it would be like trying to turn a screw by pushing lengthwise on the threads. This is part of what makes a worm drive great, the only way to turn the wheels is by applying power to the pinion.

The axles (where the wheel hexes are) can't turn the worm. If you didn't drill the axle housing for grease ports you should it's a must. Check out the Sticky LCC Tips and Tricks

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes I drilled a hole and put a set screw in the case. I don't want to take this all apart again. Now I will have to do the other axel. Thank you all for your replies, I was afraid I screwed up. Looks like all is well.
