Default Alex's sporty aka The Stormtrooper

Got my phoenix chassis in the mail so it's time to open my thread.

I'm gonna build this sporty on the cheap but yet effective with mostly parts I've collecting for my pro.

I think it's gonna be a slow build, hopefully I'll get it running before summer.

Chassis and tranny:

Overkill rc Phoenix with a box stock lnc tranny. I'll run it bodied with an x-citer.

Rear axle:

-Al lockout with homemade weight holder (CDW style)

-Overkill rc shak fin

-Brand new Dlux chromo worm

-Modded shaft and hex for 2mm pin.

-FMJ modd

Front axle:

-HD gear

-Dlux Caster ring

-Lunsford ti kin pin

-V3 cvd's and hex modded for 2mm pin

-Home made front battery/servo plate

-FMJ modd

-BTA steering

-Dlux KW

Wheels:

-Dlux delrin wheel

Shock:

-4" traxxas BB, jeepindoug springcup and shock mount.

Electronic:

-Tekin Fx-r with HH crawlmaster 2012 15t

-Castle BEC 10A

-Hitec HS-7950th

-Futaba 4pl & R203GF rx

Misc:

-Al and Ti hardware.
-Custom lunsford Ti link with traxxas Al hollow ball.

Now two pictures of the chassis with the tranny.

More to come

Alex

Looks like a good start, how much higher are those outputs on the lnc tranny vs the lcc?

I thought they were at the same height but now that you're asking I think the output are 5mm higher or something like that. I don't have any lcc tranny tough.

Little progress on my sporty, slow build .

First thing that I've noticed is how much clearance this truck have and I've got plenty of travel without any binding before I start tuning. Good job Overkill RC

The wiring is not done yet I need to calibrate my esc before I ditch the switch.

I still have a few things to do before it runs, rear upper link, bta, wiring and vp hubs for my wheels.

The question is shall I convert my truck to axial hex as axial VP hub are easier to get?

go to axial hexes. the cheap cast ones work very well for me, only had 2 stock size pins break in the. the hexes themselves are due for replacement, but they've worked great for the last couple years, even with my beatings.

the more i see the exciter bodies, the more i like them, the white fits them quite well too

When I first started crawling with my lcc I bought some axial hub with DHs but they caused binding in the drivetrain. Losi hub are flat to fit well the hex.

Looks great, did you trim the body at all or does it come like that?

Also, i see alot of air between the tranny and skid, is there a way to drop the motor at all? Its amazing how much afew grams means of weight transfer that high up in the air.

Thanks guys

Austin you got me thinking. I've done this mod with a drill and my dremel so it's easy.

I've trimmed the fourth mounting hole and the motor plate.

The motor is sitting 3~4mm lower.

You need to trim the body to your liking, trimmed body would cost more.

There's a lot of unused room on top with a lnc tranny that really make me want to cut a cf phoenix for 3.5'' shock. Lighter, perfect shock travel and a lower body for improved sidehilling. Just an idea in my mind, I may give it a try.
