| How to mount shocks upside down
How are shocks mounted upside down?.... Or actually it's right side up in most terms, with the shafts at the top and reservoirs on the bottom? I took one off to see how it would work and it looks like the frame mount is fine but the mount of the axle needs and eyelet and it won't move around like it did. Any help? I looked through the tip thread but didn't see it. And I can't search the forum because I can't select the forum in search on my phone. |

traxxas balls out of 1942 ends are what i use for my front axle, outboarded with some delrin and a homemade bolt. the rears are outboarded with 1 inch bolts, a small chunk of delrin, and the stock ball thingys that mount on the arms, last page of my thread has nice pics. for leaving them in the stock position, the traxxas balls work fine.

did you outboard them because you had to or because you wanted to? If I outboard the fronts, I think they will catch on the tire? Why do you use the traxxas balls for the front and the stock holders on the rear? Im all good mounting the ball in the eyelet on top, just have those questions about the lowers. ANd thank you |

not sure why you would want to mount them upside down. the weight really doesn't change enough to make any difference, and when i tried it it made the shocks more unpredictable. what is your reason for wanting them upside down? |

you need to shave the mount area on the axle some. the rounded area hits the flat spots on the losi bodies and causes them to bind. Use an Axial ball end or a Traxxas one and a long screw. Hope the pics help. Quote:
you were probably feeling the effect of the air inside. give them some pumps/cycles before you run and they should feel more consistent. had to do this on mine all the time. others have done the same thing and noticed the feel. if you think about the weight in over all grams its actually a lot you move down lower.

| Re: How to mount shocks upside down Pretty sure that's what I used also. Yep, weight, but even better, they don't leak as much. Quote:
1942 balls (I guess), and I even let them move around a bit, instead of using o-rings on either side to keep them centered in the axle mount.

| Re: How to mount shocks upside down I like your weight savings technique by removing the br-xl heatsink. How many grams did you save?

| Re: How to mount shocks upside down Yes, somewhat for the weight but mostly for the no leakage. So did you shave the inside of the shock mounts so they will move better? When I did one of mine, It would not travel all the way because the big flat tabs got stuck in there

Yeah, small issue with that controller. I did shave/sand/grind the plastic for clearance, yes. I had to go look to be sure. |

This is how I did mine. I cut off the (what would be normally be the top eyelet) with my Dremel. Drilled out the top and tapped it with a 3MM tap. Took a 3mm countersunk screw, wrapped it with teflon tape, added some low strength thread lock and ran it up through from the inside into a Traxxas shock end. It is a very clean and leak free setup if done right and it gives me a bit more of down travel which has seemed to come in handy so far. I might add it is almost as if Losi figured someone would do this because if you take apart your shock and look into the top, it is already countersunk to seat a counter sink screw head. Ironic? Maybe! |

You could also limit internally to get the stock length back.

They do feel a bit different, but I think for the better. I love mine the way I have them.
