| YB's outrunner sportster
Still collecting parts at this point, but after seeing a few people go trannyless with the losi axles I have to try it for myself. Here is the heart of the project, turnigy outrunner motor will be chassis mounted and direct drive to the losi axles w/ wildboar driveshafts. Here's my solution for XR outers on a losi axle. I cut the ends off of an Axial AR60 axle and drilled them to fit over the losi axle tubes. (15/32 drill bit is a perfect snug fit.) It's important to not drill too deep, so you leave enough "meat" in the axial plastic where the splines begin. |

Made this little fixture for welding the losi/axial shafts together. First I drilled a hole the diameter of the axial shaft, then I drilled that same hole the diameter of the losi shaft to half depth. Then I cut right down the center line of the hole. This ensures that the two shafts are perfectly centered on each other before welding. Used vice grips to hold everything tight while welding. Shafts welded and cleaned up ready to be installed. The bearing for the axial shaft must be installed before welding because it won't fit over the losi shaft. |

Nice front axle Great job What is the colour of the knuckles? Never seen them before... Here are the sensors: Hall Effect Sensor Board | Equals Zero Designs Are you planning on running a stock Losi axle in the rear or will you do the XR mod there too? |

The knuckles are Vanquish and I'm not sure who made the Chubs, maybe hot racing. Thanks for the sensor link!!! Thats cool stuff. I hope to use a micro sidewinder for small size and weight but if the outrunner cogs badly I will definitely be trying that sensor setup. I'm going to run a stock rear losi axle. Some of you run stock 25t gears in the rear and HD 21t gears in the front for overdrive, right? Hows that working out? |
