| Axial trans and Losi axles?
I have a truck, let's call it Muttley, that I put Losi axles under. It started life as a Venom Creeper, but one of the chubs broke and they're getting hard to find parts for. It originally had an axial trans in it. What would happen if I ran the axial trans and the Losi axles? Is this totally worthless or might it work?

i have a scx10 with losi comp axles its pretty bad ass its way slow tho! slower then a stock night crawler i have a AE-5 esc and a axial 20t motor with a 81t spur and a 20t pinion on 3s lipo and its very slow!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2tjT_k_JOE Last edited by THX_138; 05-05-2016 at 09:59 AM. |

Slower than a night crawler?! Lol. How is that possible? I guess I'll just need to do 18.5 or 13.5 brushless to keep wheelspeed up, lol

Don't waste your time. The ratio of axial and other transmissions are too steep. You'll never be happy. Stick with the Losi trans. LNC trans is small, light, durable and cheap! Its a win win win win. |

The thing is that the Losi tranny gives you a typical motor:driveshaft ratio of ~3:1. The Axial tranny is designed for ~30:1. So you can use the Axial, but use the smallest spur possible combined with the biggest pinion possible to reach closer to a 10:1 motor:driveshaft. Combine that with a low torque high speed motor and you're good to go. |

10:1 mated to 25:1 axles gives you a 250:1 final drive! Hope your motor is FAST!!! Lol |

Things to make it happen: * Minimalistic rotor (for maximum Kv with reduced torque) * 21:1 HD worm drives. * Sedonas or Voodoo tires (large diameter!) * High(ish) voltage feed. I still don't expect it to be fast, but it works. |

Well, I don't expect it to be fast at all. I already have the truck, and it has the axial trans. I don't have a spare Losi trans. I'm trying to get it functional for the least amount of money possible. I just need to look for a high kv brushless then I suppose.

The tricky thing there is that "high Kv" usually also means "high power" (for the voltage) and near insane current draw. If you want to go cheap I think your best bet is to either find 2nd hand Axial axles or an LNC tranny. |

For cheap as possible, put it together with what you have, or can borrow from other cars and try it out. Then you'll know if it seems worth messin' with. Plan B, buy a LNC chassis cheap from RC Recycler and build a crawler. Then trade it for something, or sell it. |

So they don't give stuff away like we sometimes see in the classifieds. But if you already have axles, electronics etc, for $30 you can put together a Losi crawler. And then maybe trade that for a go-fast. Or you could wait weeks or months for the right stuff to pop up in the For Sale section. Of course with your history, you're probably in a good position to just give him the pieces he needs. Bet you have boxes of that stuff. |

I actually have RC Recycler blocked on my Ebay search results so It doesn't show what he's selling.

Well, I have an almost brand new extra Losi chassis. Side plates, batter tray, body mounts, shock mounts. I have a few link pieces, a set of stock lowers I believe. I have a motor/esc I could probably throw in it, AE-2 and a 27T I think. I don't have a servo or upper links or a body or a trans. My main goal is to get this particular truck functional. It was my first crawler, and I have an emotional attachment to keeping it running. I've already robbed it's electronics to get my Losi Truggy going and my SCX-10 going. But, that chassis and body need to be functional.

Understandable. I think it'd be the last thing I'd sell off when the time comes. If I even do. Keep and eye out in the Classifieds here, I see nice looking, good condition rollers being let go for cheap. Some look brand new sometimes. | |

Well, we'll have to I see how that RC4WD trans works when it gets here, lol.
