Default LNC Run Time

I'm thinking of getting a Night Crawler as my first crawler. I've read that the worm drive kills the battery/run time. I know a lot depends on how and where you're driving, but I'm just curious what kind of run times you get and with what battery? Thanks.

A SCX has absolutely zero to do with the Losi. Literally, none. Nothing.

1100 mah packs will get you about 15 minutes.

Nevermind that a 5000 mah battery should be lasting you driving a SCX all day…

You question makes me wonder why you want a LNC? What do you plan to do with it? It's an excellent technical crawler. But at endurance or speed it sucks. Not a natural trail machine.

Want it as a crawler. I already have a Traxxas for speed/trails. Just curious to know if I'm going to need a pile of batteries and/or recharge every 15 mins. Or do people get longer run times than that?

I also get bored or some part broken before running out of battery power.
To get the most out of your battery read the friction thread.

(See signature for details about my crawler.)

Thanks for all the replies. Do the worm drives really suck that much power? How do these run times compare to say an Axial SCX10 or AX10?

I run a brushless setup on my LNC, and my old 1500 2S pack delivered 45min of rock time.

I now have 1000 and 850 3S, not tried it on the rocks yet, But should be ±20min each.

They sure do. The worm drives alone will consume about half of the mechanical power generated by the motor.
Crawlers with regular gears sporting the same battery and motor and driven the same way (route and wheel speed) should have almost twice the runtime.
(Read more about it in my worm drive thread.)

1500 2S is the same energy as 1000 3S, so if you drive the same it will last just as long.
Only when you make use of the extra power available will the new battery drain faster.

No matter what you're using ALWAYS carry more batteries than you think you'll need.

25 mins seems the average.

Thanks again. I really appreciate the replies. I'd feel pretty good if I could get 20-25 mins out of them. I just want to be able to stay and play and crawl for as long as possible and for as long as it takes for my boy to burn thru his batteries for his Traxxas.

If you plan to run longish times be sure to keep track of the temperatures of the various pieces. The worms, servo, motor and esc can all get hot. Also note that the worms require regular re-greasing. Many of us use one or two threaded & plugged ports on each axle to shoot in grease between maintenance.

I ran a G6 with my Losi converted to a Class 2 Scale crawler.

98 gates and over a mile long trail. Did this with (2) 2200mah 3S batteries tied in series for 6S. Basically a saddle pack....

I the course took me about 45min to complete. I did not have to change batteries.

My combo that day was HD Worm Gears, Novak 17.5 Sensored motor, Mamba Max Pro ESC, Castle 10amp UBEC

15T Pinion and 4.75" dia tires.

The Losi can be a capable trail rig! There is just a few things that MUST happen to get it there. I've been competing in SORRCA Scale Comps for 4 years with mine, as well as hundreds of trail rides...problem is, you have to build and engineer darn near everything! There is no scale aftermarket support whatsoever. If you love to scratch build and tinker, then go for it! Lots of good info here in the Losi section to make it a success!

Great idea...don't suppose you have a thread or "how to" page on how you made the threaded ports on the axles?

Thanks for the info and reply. Honestly, I don't see myself doing any comps... Just want a fun crawler to take out with my son. It's nice knowing there are folks like you and this forum if I do ever decide to start doing some serious modification and upgrading though. Thanks again.
