Default BJoe’s Losi Comp and Night Crawlers

Here’s my next resurrection projects, my Losi Comp Crawler and Night Crawler BnD. They’ve been sitting for years and only have had the LNC running and need to wait in an adapter to charge the EC3 connectored batteries in them so I can tell if it’s the battery needing a charge vs a new ESC/Motor combo........not saying new electronics aren’t in their futures, but I want to get them both running as is to start!

Here’s
How they looked back in the day, for reference

I was looking at those last night and got to thinking those might look good on these, even if they’ll cost $150 or so shipped the Parma bodies on them now will get painted in the same color scheme as the Helios bodies I ran back in the day, though I may design a panel paint masks for my Sister to cut with her Cricut machine too.

I’ll post more detailed pics from the other night (photobucket had an issue), but did get the charge lead for these batteries in today and ordered a set of 2.2 Predator compound Hyrax for the LNC.

Ok, before I forget again, here some pics of each rig I was going to post a couple nights back.
Starting with the Comp Crawler, other than the body and some of the dust, it’s exactly as it was when I was using to Comp a decade ago.

And the Night Crawler, with the exception of the body, dust and battery, it’s basically how I ran it a decade ago too, other than body, servo arm, Traxxas Titan 21t motor, and Rx and battery locations, it’s pretty much box stock

Ok here’s the plan for the paint on these two, initially applied to the masked body on the right. The plan is to transfer that to the inside (and maybe extend the top strip around the back of the shell) then mask the inside of that tape line off, shoot the truck in metallic black, the inside in either Candy or metallic red, then the orange taped area in either pearl white or some sort of silver and as a backing for the red, then tint the windows red with the Candy red as well. I was going to flip the metallic black and what ever I do for the red on the other body.

Any thoughts?

They’re now masked, just need to get some paint. Decided to go metallic red and silver over candy red and pearl white, the metallic black is staying metallic black.

Oddly enough, I’m still up at 5:30am and was working on these until almost 5am..........not the first time that has happened with these two...........

Got the Hyrax mounted on the LCC, these things are damn big, think they might be close in side to the stock Clod tires and the Proline 2.6” Destroyers on my Wheely King!

Body isn’t quite ready yet, and I appear to have melted some of the lexan with the black paint I used (?!), but here’s how the LCC looks with the huge tires and mostly painted body

Have a little more work to do on the LNC’s body, plus I found some Meccano L Brackets on eBay that will make better body mounts than these lexan ones do too, those should be here in a day or two and Dad ordered some 2-56x1/4 capheads off Amazon that I’ll be replacing the stock beadlock plate screws with too. Once the new body is done and mounted and the new beadlock screws are installed,I’ll post pics comparing the two as they sit at that time.

Barring new tires on the LNC, new bodies, and the arrival of the Holmes Hobbies motors I recently ordered, one of which is also going in the LNC, I’m done with these two for now!

Since I had made L-Brackets for the LNC’s body mounts from lexan and those were failing, found some pieces from Erector on eBay that were a dead on match for what I had made........or the other way around........possibly the latter......

Also swapped the countersunk bead lock ring screws for capheads, which won’t strip as easily if I get ham fisted while wrenching, but can be used as lugs on rocks too and out the Comp Claws from the LCC on the LNC for now.

I’m not at all happy with the paint I used, the silver bleeds easily and the metallic black had piss poor coverage, ran just as bad, and attacked the lexan where it bled through. I’ve had not so great luck with other colors of their’s too and this was the last straw.
Here’s where it melted

Here’s how they looked after swapping the bead lock screws.

After I shot those pics, I got to thinking and trimmed the areas where the silver bled through before laying the bed liner for the final coat, though it won’t hide the damage from where the body was melted.

How long do you keep your Christmas tree up? Asking for a friend

rigs look good. I like the reverse color scheme.

Probably until sometime after Sunday, due to my Sister and Brother in Law catching Covid from his Dad, we’re finally able to have Christmas then.

I will say this, Little People toys are a PITA to wrap

Took the Comp Crawler out today, ran it on rocks for the first time since 2012 or 2013!

Unfortunately, I also had the dig servo bind then broke a rod end on the axle end of the right side LCA....

Got some video Dad shot of the truck in action that I'll post on YouTube once I get the chance.
