I've noticed that its real hard to get my wk to hook up in the snow. So once I buy a new set of shoes for the wk, I was thinking about running a bunch of 4-40 screw through my stock tires (from the inside out), put some nuts with thread lock on the outside and cut the rest of the screws off to make studded snow tires. What do you guys think?

i think that would be cool. they would chew, and add some unsprung very low weight.

that would probably get you traction not only in the snow but everywhere besides the blacktop lol and also add a little weight

I agree, if its powder traction you're after then chains or paddles are your best bet. If its hard pack traction then studs work great.

Mostly the hard packed stuff is what i'm thing about. I noticed that the huge snow banks that the plows make in parking lots are awesome crawling spots.

I know its not exactly the same but we did this with an old quad we had. we were running inner-tubes, and had an old set of mud tires for it. We did just as you are talking but used bigger bolts of course. It worked killer for the ice we rode in over in Eastern Wa State. Was a pain in the ass to do the work but totally worth it in the end. If I was so afraid of getting my electronics wet

Thats going to take forever! good luck I saw on some show on the discovery channel some guys turned like a bmw into a zamboni (sp?). they just used good old wood screws through the tire and sealed it with green slime. Worked really good on the ice rink full scale... BTW that would be awsome to see Proline or someone come out with studded tires...

Those are pretty sweet, but I think the weight that actual screws with nuts would add would help a lot. I might try those too.

I used Imex Red rockcrawlers 2.2 worked GREAT. i like crawling snow banks that have melted, makes up for not being able to crawl when winter hits
