Default New Tires - 2.2 Reverends

I need to soften them up but I'm liking the tread pattern

If you want any good luck doing that try a tire in a soft compound or with "sticky rubber". They look kind of cool though.

Reminds me of the imex red rock tires but with a point added to some of the treads.

Ah, that's why they looked oddly familiar yet totally unrecognizable....... Clever idea anyway!

Bingo.

I call them Reverends but I guess they could be called Schwabs or Moins.

I wasn't going for any sort of comp tire ... I just had a bike tire wasting away and my old moabs were pretty torn up ... so I figured why not.

Surprisingly they actually climb pretty well. The soft sidewalls allow them to conform a decent amount but they are really just evil looking basher tires.

I seem to recall a thread in here somewhere that mentioned using meat tenderizer to soften the tires. Do a search on tenderizer in the Tires/Wheel thread.

After I made the first one my mind started to wander. Any sort of rubber can be cut right and I'm sure there are some soft rubber "somethings" out there that will make a good comp tire.

I'm interested to see what you come up with

Actually, I don't want them any softer ... just a little stickier. I may try the crawler tape stuff and see how that works.

I may have to hit the local Wally World and see what's out there for MTB tires to chop up. What kind of scissors did you use to cut the tires?

Have you thought about sanding down how thickness of the bike tire? Cuz bike tires are pretty thick.

Regular scissors for the tread but I needed wire cutters for the bead as it has a 18ga or so wire running through it.

Yeah I thought about sanding them but this was really just a test run to see how they would come out. Sanding should make them conform a little better but I bet there are some little kid bike tires that would be thinner. But remember, the compound isn't gonna be like a proline M3 or anything.

I think the tire originally cost me $7 ... so 4 tires for $7 and they'll probably provide a lifetime of bashing. I'm happy
