Default Genious by accident...

... or am I?

Tonight whilst swapping some tires and rims around, I made a discovery quite by accident. As I was putting a Giant Trac on one of my wheels, the bead popped inside out and stayed that way. As I went to fix it, it hit me like a ton of bricks... it made the rim width even narrower thus the treads of the tire were wrapping to the sidewalls creating a scrumptious looking sidebite.

AND, imagine the extra clearance you'll have from chassis and link rub while articulating and/or turning.

I wondered how I could hold it that way without gluing it when a ziptie almost poked me in the eye as I bent down for a closer look. BINGO!

Soooooo, I decided to do some experimenting and here are the pics to show my results... if there is anything I am missing here, I'd love to know.

WARNING: Doing the Pullers took me quite some time. It would be much better to have an third hand!

First, heres a pic showing what I did.

Next we have a Giant Trac comparison. The wheel on the right is stock. Rim in the center is your standard cut rim, to the left, a cut rim (simulated) with reverse bead seat. Notice the yummy tread protruding from the side of the reverse bead tire. Nice for grabbing onto things you can't turn into.

Next we have an Imex Puller. Top on a cut rim, bottom on cut with reverse bead.

Here is a cut Clod tire... look at those juicy edges hanging off the tire just waiting to grab onto something!

And finally, a stock USA-1 tire. A stock Clod tire would work the same. Sure, it's not a Giant Trac but hey, if all ya got is stock, this would most certainly improve hieght and side bite!

I don't like how the rim sticks far out from the tire, but it seems like it would work.

I don't know what happened to the remark I made but...

I had meant to say that normally this would be done on a cut rim thus not leaving all of that hanging out. I only had so many cut rims handy so I used a couple of uncut ones for the pics.

Pretty cool set-up there wolf. Could you use the Zip tie as a spacer insteed of useing it to hold the folded over bead?. I might try that if my juggy evvvvvvvvvver comes

Highmark... I doubt that would work as part of the zip tie is too low to keep the tire from crawling over it. Plus you'd have to have a pretty wide zip tie to equal the distance.

I am waiting to finally get out and test this idea before I totally commit to it. That is if the snow ever melts.

I did it tonight, my tires look way better now. I only did it on my maxx mashers which are really small tires to start with, now they are close to 5 1/2" tall. Better than before. If I ever get some BFT tires I will do this mod. I drove them today, as long as the chassis didn't get hooked on a rock the truck would go up any rock I wanted as long as I found the right path. I drove through my new rock pile everyway and made it through each time.

Right now I'm running a set of stock BFT's (Monster GT) rims and tires. but I cut the factory glue on the inner bead (so I could get the foams out and then I slipped the tire bead over the inner most bead to make the alittle more buldgey but I want more and I don't feel like cuttng the rims down. So been thinking about making a spacer out of a piece PVC pipe and spliting it down teh side so I could get it on the rim thus it narrow my mounting surface on BFT rims just a bit more without having to cut up the rims.
