Lately every one I talk to seems to hate moabs. I know the newest tires are supposed to be better, but I still love my moabs. People seem to like the masher still, but on my rigs, the moabs just perform better. So what's the deal? Are the badlands and losi claws that much better?

Different tires are better for different terrain.

The Moabs are a great tire, and work well in some areas, but the newer treads are significantly better. Check out the tire tests just posted up by Dirk. My M2 Badlands smoke even M3 Moabs in most situations here in Cralwerado. It may be that you're running in areas that the Moabs are the superior tire. Most of the bashing comes from people being into the newest, coolest thing.

It's largely people in the same terrain as me, but I guess I'm going to have to try some new rubber. The thing that surprises me most is that to me moabs outperform mashers (both M2) and quite a few still like their mashers. It's a mystery.

For Slick Rock or Boulders I like running my Rock Claws or Moabs. But for anything with an edge or sharp rocks, my rig does much better with M3 Mashers. But that is based on how I drive, my foams, and my rig setup. I have heard a lot of great things about the Badlands so I look forward to getting a set, unless of course I get feedback on Pro-line Hammers or Flatirons before I buy my next set.

I love the Moabs. I do think that there is no perfect tire. And the terrain that you drive in largely defines the best tire for your area and your driving style. I've gone through a lot of tires, and I plan to get the hammers too, but generally for the terrain that I drive in plus my driving style Moabs seem to perform very well. I currently have badlands on my truck and I've noticed that they do grab better in certain conditions. I think that in any particular terrain and driving style, there are certain conditions(ie. angles, dull or sharp rock, sand or clay, wet or dry, ect.) that allows different tires to shine as the superior. However, some tires cover more of those conditions than others, and that depends on the terrain and driving style. This same thing has been said over and over again, because it's correct. It's my opinion that people who say a tire sucks, are offering up that statement for their terrain and driving style. It's also my opinion, that if they aren't referring to their terrain and driving style then I consider such a statement ignorable. So... moabs work very well for me on Hawaii island while driving on pahoehoe, theolitic oceanic basalt.

I have been running MOABs for a few weeks now, they just wouldnt hook up for shit on my testing rock pile. Then today I got a set of M2 Mashers and mounted them up, using the same wheels as the MOABS. The Mashers would go where my MOABs couldnt and had very little wheelspin, where the MOABs would just spin and spin, then hop and throw me off my line. I also have a set of M2 Badlands ordered and a set of M2 Hammers. They will be in by Wed. I dont dislike the MOABs but on my testing rock pile, they just cant get the job done. Ill still mount them up on another set of wheels and take them with me to GTGs & Comps.

It all depends on the terrain. At our last comp there were quite a few moabs running. I use them myself. I now also have rock claws but they will have to crawl really good to make me not like my moabs lol

The only 2.2 tire I've ever run are Moabs. Until now. My new scaler project will be running on Losi Claws, it will be interesting to see how what the difference is. Moabs are a good tire, maybe just not the best. Use whatever works best for YOU.

All this really is funny. Seems to be whatever a person runs, is the best tire. Guys you should know that there is alittle more to crawling than the tire. My moabs have out done claws/badlands/mashers/etc, in certain areas. And not once could I not make a line that they took. So are the moabs that much better?? no, thats silly. Crawler setup has much more to do with it. Different tires warrent different setups. If I found a tire that actually could make a line that my moabs couldn't, then the moabs would be ditched. But that is not going to happen. Driving skills and set up play a more important part than tires. I ran a comp a few months ago, where my red rocks made a section where a new set of claws couldn't. And the red rocks are horrible tires. But the guy with the claws had a poor setup. So back on topic, no hate for moabs here.

I currently run M3 moabs on my rig. I dont hate them, I just wish I knew which tire to use in time of need. I won an AX10 at our last comp. using M3 moabs on theolitic oceanic basalt . But I got my but whooped while trying to win a Blackjack using m3 moabs on granite. Proper choice of tire comes with proper knowledge of the type of tire that will work on the surface your GTG or comp. is being held on. Try not to worry about how much people can hate something, But forward your efforts to making others worry about how much you CAN know....(Knowledge of your rig, knowledge on how to choose the best line, knowledge on which tire to use at that days comp, so on and so forth...) No one can tell you what YOU want, But it can be told to you to KNOW what you want. Buy um all, Use it all, Know it all.

I think it is a case of "oh oh! a new tire is out! Now the ones we use to love aren't nearly as good just because there is a new pattern out" admit it
