Default Proline Tire Shootout Results

Here are the results. Take note that this portion of the test was done on slick rock and a whole new chart will be posted for the test that was conducted on a different type of terrain. This should give you a good overall idea of tire performance. You can see from the chart, each " number grade" that the tire received, using a 1 through 10 scale. I have also included Likes and Dislikes described from the testing drivers. Lastly, the Proline website will have the detailed report if you need more information. I will post the link to this written review once it is up on their site. UPDATED CHART WITH M3 FLAT IRON

SlickRock/Sandstone

Hammer M2
Likes:
Open lugs
M2 Compound
Low speed crawling ability
Alternating lugs (open/solid/open/solid)
Side Hilling
Vertical climbing
Size
Looks
Dislikes:
Long break in period
Best for: All rock terrain competition tire. Steep verticals and side hilling are best attribute. Crawl slow or fast and they work. Look good enough for scale builds.

Hammer M3
Likes:
Similar to the Hammer M2 in performance
Side Hilling
Size
Looks
No break in necessary
Mud clearing ability
Work when wet
Dislikes:
Too soft
LFO (Lug Fold Over)
Should run a lighter truck with these tires
Foam is critical when running these tires
Hard to mount on bead lock wheels
Best for: Granite or river rock boulder crawling. Slick rock tends to cause too much LFO. Use with a multistage or firm foam is a must to allow lugs to grab. Work better than any other tire when wet.

Badlands M2
Likes:
Best at Side hilling, climbing
Fast or slow crawl speed is excellent
Wide or narrow wheel acceptable
Size is great
Worked well in dirt, rock, sand, any terrain
No tire push or scrubbing
Dislikes:
Small sidewall lugs
Slight LFO due to smaller tread lugs
Mud clearing ability
Best for: Slick Rock competition. Best side hilling tire of the bunch, by far. Excellent climbers. Don’t load them up with mud. Work best when dry. Throw them at any type of rock and the work.

Badlands M3
Likes:
Work similarly to the Badlands M2
Side Hilling
Slow crawl speed friendly
Cleared mud better than the M2 Badlands.
No break in needed
Dislikes:
Too soft, LFO
Hard to mount, lost a bead once during testing
Had to use a very firm foam
Tread wears quickly
Best for: Boulder crawling and damp areas.

Moab M2
Likes:
Proven tread and sidewall design
Clears mud fairly well
Tread wear
More of an all terrain tire
Very easy to mount
Dislikes:
Dated tread and sidewall design
Long break in period
Side hilling
Wheel speed slippage
Best for: Bashing, crawling and practice. No longer considered a hardcore
Competition tire compared to new Proline rubber. Best for large, jagged rock.

Moab M3
Likes:
Softer compound combined with the proven Moab
Hooks up and side hills better than M2 Moab
Soft memory foam required
Easy to mount
Dislikes:
Dated tread and sidewall design
Slight LFO
Front tire push
Best for: Jagged boulder competition crawling and some slick rock.

Moab M3 Modified
Likes:
Modifications help in vertical climbs and side hilling
Dislikes:
Had to modify and cut a lot of rubber
More LFO
Tread wear was quicker
Had to use a very firm foam for support
Best for: Experimentation. All around competition tire.

Masher 2000 M3
Likes:
They are big! Great for big rock!
Huge lug bars help pull ledges
M3 compound is a big improvement
Use any foam and they work
Mount on wide or narrow wheel
Can run tread in either direction
Easily modified
Large voids for best mud clearing
Dislikes:
Side hilling
Hurt steep climbing ability
Old school Chevron tread pattern
No sidewall lugs
Best for: Largest rock in competition. Pulling ledges and rock racing.

Flatirons M2
Likes:
Overall size and looks
Tread pattern with kerfs
Aggressive sidewall lugs
Flat tread with no crowning
Forward traction and side hilling
Stiffer carcass, so foam is not as critical
Large voids for good mud clearing
Hook up when on the throttle
No LFO at all, except on the outer should lugs
Long tread wear
Dislikes:
Long break in period
Best for: Slick rock competition. Wheel speed.

What are the biggest factors that set it apart from the Crushers as far as performance? Different compound, shorter lugs, sipping?

Dirk, could you host the images on a more reliable server? Imageshack isn't doing to hot with this one. If you want, I can host it on my site, just email me the file to turtlecrawler@gmail.com

Good work guys! It's good to see the results and how they all compare. I like the new Flatirons, they do look like a good scale and comp tire.

Which foams were used in the test?

Edit: Also will the Flatirons be released with Memory Foams as well?

The test scores all reflect proline memory foams being used.
there will be an option for standard foam and memory foams......in M2 and M3.

I have not tested the M3 Flatiron yet.

Thanks Dirk and Rizzo for this very nice test and comparison, i hope it helps others make good decisions when they purchase a set of tires, i can't say the same for me as i will always end up buying all of them anyways, but it helps to know which will work better where.

I have to say everyone, the flat irons really impressed me!! I have been keeping my mouth shut for a few weeks waiting for Dirk or Franky to "officially Debut" this tire, I was there one day when Dirk was testing them. They outperformed my m3 Hammers and kept up to the Losi's the whole day of messing around. The M2 FI performed very well, can't wait to see the M3 FI. I think with the shorter lugs, the m3 FI could be the tire. Not sure it will take over as a new comp tire(Did perform really well). I can say this, the Flat Irons will be the new scale tire to have, no other scale looking tire I have seen performed like they did. Funny to think, this was a tire PL wasn't going to produce. I think it might be your biggest hit!!!
