I mounted some claws up last week using the foam that came with them in a typical star cut. I think they might be too soft now. They look ok on the roll but fold over almost too easily under side loading. I have read several posts about people using the stock Axial Lizard foam in the claws and they seem to like it. Would someone please go into more detail about why people are liking the Axial foam in the Claws? I have some Axial foams on the workbench, but the thought of unscrewing - rescrewing all those beadlock bolts is making my imaginary carpal tunnel flare up. :? Don't want to do it if it's not worth it. Thanks!

While I get that this would require opening up the beadlocks (which sucks), a picture might be helpful. It is possible to take out too much foam, and it sounds like you might have. Not sure about other folks, but I don't have strong feelings about the Losi foam vs the Axial foam.

The most common Claw set up is memory foams in the fronts and unmolested stock foam in the rear. This set up provides the right front to rear traction. Memory foam all around gives the rear tires to much bite and takes away from your front traction by lifting the front wheels slightly.

I have the stock axial foams that seem really stiff. I may do some light cutting on a couple of those for the rear. Thanks | |

honestly...i dont think i would ever fun memory foams. Ive considered it several times. But with the temp variation and the fact i like to run year round they just dont make sence. At our last comp it was 50*f out, and the guys who were running MF's were running on square tires because the foam couldnt react fast enough. I just got a set of the "all weather stretch" foams from TCS and am loving them, every bit as good as my dads memory foams (and WAY better in the cold), stretched the tire a little bit (see pic below), and nice soft center with plenty of sidewall stiffness...Best part is they are 7 bux for a pair and are unaffected by the cold stock foam on the right...tcs stretch on the left...

i run stock losi foams in the rear and i am actually using 1.5 ace donuts in each front. i found with just 1 mem foam donut was to soft so i cut one in half and put that in with a full one. stiffened her up a bit and made sidehilling better, doesnt collapse so fast now

Well... I kept the stock Losi star cut foams in the front (they are perfect), and in the rear, I put in the Axial Foams with a modified star cut. It has more points with 3/16" flat tops. I also sliced a groove down the center radially. When I first mounted them up I wasn't sure I liked them because the axials are much wider, rounding out the sidewalls. (versus the flat sidewalls with the Losi foams) they flattened out some and look much better now. Most of all they perform excellently. They still have great traction, but now they don't foldup when they get it.
