| Modified Eritex comp heavies
Update fellas,,,,, First off I am a dumb ass... For the life of me I cant get the pics to upload, tried all of the suggestions, photobucket etc, just wont keep it resized. Anyways, I will continue to work on it but to answer a few questions; The rounds have been fired so I dont get a rock to hit the primer just right and fire it, that would suck! The cases are filled with lead. I melted lead fishing weights with a propane torch and it worked perfectly. I weighed out each shell and they average 25.1 grams. If I use all 8 in a wheel, the total weight w/o the tire including the wheels/rings/screws is right at 10 ounces. Of course I can remove one or two, place and empty shell in there and keep the look modifying the weight. Shane.... be careful with the pilot holes! The first wheel I made I just used a spring loaded centerpunch for the start and went at it with a .475 drill bit. It worked great but I thought why not use a pilot hole to start it? Didn't work really well. For whatever reason the drill bit was so sharp/material hardness, whatever, it snagged it and left a broken edge around the radius of the hole. The drill bits are brand new designed for aircraft tolerances so super sharp and precision (not mine, works tools!) I would suggest that you get your centerpoint punched and got for it with the correct size bit. The holes dont go all the way through, just deep enough to use a reamer to get the shell to sit flush with the surface of the wheel and the bead lock ring. The fit is snug but you can get them out with a slight tap or turning upside down. The wheels made by Eritex are absolutely awesome and super strong. I went out and tested them with a brand new set of Losi Claws and stock foams. The wheels held up great with no issues. I did pull the tire off the bead, dont know how but I did. Need some softer foams but other then that they are great. I WILL GET PICS UP!!! SHOEI1 was nice enough, and smart enough to get a pic up for me. More to come! In addition, I placed the smaller ring on the outside and the larger on the inside. This way you see more of the shell casing, just a personal preference. I just made the template for my comp heavy's (haven't gotten them from the mail yet) 1.6" bolt circle,, 0.8" from center. Holes are 0.612" apart. Eight pilot holes. Then I will drill the 1/2" holes on the wheel. The center hole is for attaching wheel to this. nevermind the random hole in the top right or the shape of the metal plate JeepinDoug helped me with the measurements. Looks good Carver. I remember seeing that. I could have swore I sent you an email explaining design similarities with another vendor and how I was not willing to do that. That idea has been sent to me many times by many people, sorry if I overlooked you. Last edited by Eritex Inc.; 02-13-2009 at 05:01 PM. |
