| DIY Beadlocks ~ Maxx sized
Just searched through 300 posts about beadlocks and couldn't find much that would apply to a Maxx sized rim. I picked up a set of supercheap truggy rims, and after narrowing I'd like to make them beadlocks. There's a couple ideas rolling around in my head, but though I'd ask to see if anyone had attempted this before? |

Donno about making some... but Maximizer makes 3.2 beadlocks. Interested in what you work out though.

Yeah I've got a set of Maximizers already, but they're too wide. Guess I'll have to figure something out and do a write up... |

Well after several hardware stores and a handful of parts, I gave up and started narrowing my Maximizers... Only problem is I already snapped one back apart when trying to mount my Zombies...doesn't seem to hold the superglue very well... |

Dude... you might try something I've done in the past to beef up plastic and wood joints that needed to be STRONG. get some 15-30 min epoxy and some 1oz or heavier fiber glass cloth. use super glue to tack the rims togther... rough up the outer part of the rim with some 100 grit or so sand paper...cut a strip of the glass cloth so it fits between the rim halfs and overlaps the two halfs as much as possible... TACK one end of it to the rim with super glue... now pull it around the rim TIGHT and tack it again to hold it in place... mix up some epoxy and brush it over the glass cloth filling the weave... if you use light weight cloth be careful not to brush to hard as it tends to pull the cloth apart... once done it should be damm near impossible to seperate the two halfs. The epoxy WILL bond well where super glue will not. John Last edited by JSN; 02-26-2009 at 08:31 PM. |

Using the fg cloth is a good idea, but is a no-go with the Maximizers. They have a couple of rings that go inside the tire that must sit flat on the wheel. I used the excess I cut out and glued it to the inside of the rim. I epoxied the one that split, so we'll see how that holds. I may also put a few rivets in it. They should be flat enough to not bother the rings... And yeah, I'm going to do them all. No point in only screwing up half a set of perfectly good rims...lol |

| I'm a dumbass...but I did figure out why I was having such a hard time getting those Zombies on and why that rim cracked back apart... I forgot that the shim ring was still in the rear beads. And adding the rivets worked out well. I countersunk the holes so that the inner rings would slide over. Those wheels will never come apart now. |
