First off, thanks to Steve, Jim, Tom, Jenee', Danielle and crew at Vanquish Products. Thanks to "El Diablo" at PitBull Tires, and last but certainly not least, thanks to Eddie at Crawler InNovations!!!

As soon as I saw these wheels listed on the vanquishproducts.com website, I knew I had to order them for the Honcho. I preordered them as soon as Vanquish would allow it, and anxiously awaited their arrival. In the meantime, I contacted pitbulltires.com and they hooked me up with some hot new 2.2 scale tires called the Rock Beast XOR.

Well, today was the day that the SSZ-9 wheels that I ordered showed up. I could not open the box fast enough. Being an owner of 7 sets of Vanquish wheels, I knew that this set would be as amazing if not more amazing than the rest.

The attention to detail in these wheels is AMAZING, Vanquish as we all know makes some of, if not THE BEST beadlocks on the market, and these were no different. The detail in the cap is amazing with the little VP logo in the center, all the chamfered edges are beautiful, this is no doubt the most detailed scale wheel on the market.

The back side/locking side of the wheel.

The wheels feature:
Single sided clamp ring bead lock.
They use slw style hub offsets.
A high strength plastic internal bead retainer ring
Air relief channel allows free flowing air to escape the wheel if it is drilled to allow venting.
.800 inches wide.
Anodized
Includes 2 wheels.
2 beadlocks
2 ported internal bead retainer rings
12 hub screws.
12 beadlock screw
6 assembly screws

Here is the link to the other wheels they are offering...

I am not going to lie, this wheel was not the easiest Vanquish wheel I have ever put together, but what does that mean? It is no DH that assembles itself, although once you figure out the finess to get the wheel together, it is a walk in the park. I will walk you through the steps I took to secure the bead.

The foams to be used, Crawler InNovations DD's

The PitBull Rock Beasts
http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...Z/DSC00638.jpg

To start, I inserted the internal bead retainer ring into the tire with the Crawler InNovations foams holding it in place.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...Z/DSC00639.jpg

I next pushed the face of the wheel into the Rock Beast tires then squeezed the two wheel parts together semi securing the front bead of the tire.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...Z/DSC00640.jpg

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...Z/DSC00641.jpg

Next, I lined the beadlock ring up with the threaded holes of the face.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...Z/DSC00642.jpg

Then I took the rear beadlock ring and three of the long assembly screws Vanquish included for ease of installation, and started three or four threads into the wheel.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...Z/DSC00643.jpg

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...Z/DSC00644.jpg

After tightening the screws about half way, I massaged the bead of the tire to ensure it was in the groove of the retainer ring.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...Z/DSC00645.jpg

I then tightened the long assebly screws until I could get the shorter beadlock screws to grab thread, and finished tightening them in a triangle pattern until they were all 3 tight. Then I removed the 3 long assembly screws and replaced them with the final 3 shorter beadlock screws.

Next came my favorite scale feature of the wheel, installing them on the Honcho.

Started with a basic 12mm hex

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...Z/DSC00650.jpg

Then, you must install your Vanquish SLW style hub to your truck.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...Z/DSC00651.jpg

Then you get to mount up your wheels just like a 1:1 truck, one lug at a time. This is no doubt a very scale feature. Yes, it takes a little longer, but us scale guys put so much time into our trucks, what is another minute or two to remove a wheel?

All in all, I am very impressed yet again with Vanquish Products, they continue to raise the bar, and have no trouble making us drool everytime we see the latest that comes out of their shop.

I am also very impressed with my first impression of the PitBull Rock Beast XOR scale tires. I cannot wait to get them on the rocks. They are insanely sticky "thumbsup"

I also want to thank Eddie at Crawler InNovations for his foam work, I love having foams I don't have to tune and they do what I expect!

More pictures to follow with tire testing...DROOL AWAY!!!:flipoff:

Grimreeper 06-08-2010 06:32 PM

i know that it is probably too late but did you happen to get a total weight of the wheels with hardware? looks like they are very light and might be a good comp wheel.

jeeper_05 06-08-2010 08:45 PM

I will take one apart and get that for you shortly, I was thinking of that last night once I got the review done...

jeeper_05 06-08-2010 09:39 PM

Inside retainer ring .6 oz
Backside beadlock ring .3 oz
Face of wheel 1.2 oz
Hardware .2 oz
475 hub .2 oz
Complete with hardware and wheel 2.5 oz

Grimreeper 06-09-2010 03:08 AM

hotwheels000 06-09-2010 11:53 AM

Looks great Scott"thumbsup"So with the slw 475 hubs you are a 10" ?

What would it take to get to 10.5 ? I hate to go that wide but to get the most out of the super 300's thats what I need.

Vanquish knocked it out of the park with this series of wheels8)
