Default cut stock foams, or buy foams?

I've read through some threads about cutting a star pattern for the stock foams, but is this just a bandaid, and getting different foams would be better? I'd like to get more flex out of my stock rock claws, but don't want to cut the foams only to find I overdid it and need to buy new ones anyway.

Also, I've read of cutting front foams, but not rears. why?

Definitely buy foams. Check out Crawler Innovations, he has several different foam densities and widths to choose from that will allow you to dial your setup in perfectly.

I would plan on buying some new foams, they can make a huge difference but there is nothing wrong with cutting your stock foams between now and then. Most people want to keep the rear tires a little harder, but having a soft front tire aids in wrapping the tire around a rock to gain traction. I wouldnt cut much though, a tire that is to soft will drastically cut down on sidehilling abillity. Have you added weight to the front wheels yet? That will make the biggest difference for you.

i star cut my front tires , worked really well .. i left rear tires alone on my rig,, but memory foam would defanatly be an improvement.

Yeah, the fronts are weighted, but not the rears. Previous owner did that. I'll try cutting them and see how I like it, then maybe on to some other tires/foams
