I have been thinking about this tire for at least a year now. After multiple sets of custom tires and months of testing, I have completely given up on 1/8 scale buggy tires for 1.9 Comp Crawlers. No matter what I did, the bottom line is the racing tire carcass it too thick. You can belt sand the flat area, but the buggy side walls were the problem. Belt sanding a tire side wall is tough and ultimately that is what limits the buggy tire for use as a cut n shut (IMO anyways).

So... I switched to Short Course tires. Mucho better! I have made a number of different short course tire sets now. With Nationals next week, a customer came to me for tires and the tire on the far right is one of the sets I made for him. It's M2 compound Pro-Line Flat Iron side wall with a M4 compound Pro-Line Short Course Bow Tie. The tire finishes at 4.0" Tall. The trimmed pattern is of my own design. You can use either 4" Lil' Nova Dual Stage foams or a combination of single stage foams with tuning discs. These need at least a .75" or 3/4" wide 1.9 wheel or wider.

Looking sweet! I just got a MRC Pro running some 1.9 Rovers for now...pretty impressed with the rig and at the new price it's a great deal!

Wondering what the best foams would be on the 1.9 Rovers...the stock foams are great but leaves a lot of room inside the tire to a point they flatten out pretty low.

Probably be looking into CI for some foams again...any suggestions?

Here is what I recommend and use on my MRC running 1.9 Red compound HB Rovers:

Lil' Nova 1.9 Single Stage Soft Foams for the front 2.0" wide

Lil' Nova 1.9 Single Stage Medium Foams for the rear 1.50" wide


I have done several sets now. I just haven't done good pictures or a write up. But since you asked, here are two cell phone pictures of a set I made from Hot Bodies Mega Grid Short Course Tires with Pro-Line Flat Iron sidewalls. The tires worked very well on a .75" 1.9 VP Bead Lock. They would do even better on a 1.0" wide wheel I think.

This was a rush job and I had to use what was available and in stock in order to meet the ship out deadline so the customer could get these before Nationals. So that was the main reason for the use of this tire even though it was a tire I had been thinking about making for myself for months now.

I am working with other brand short course tires now and experimenting with what works and what does not. You can't lead and innovate by following. The Bow Fighter design looks interesting, but Pro-Line tires are expensive and some of their rubber compounds are extremely difficult to work with.
